With Robonine team just completed a new article: In-depth testing of the Feetech STS3215 servomotor — the popular choice for open-source robotic projects like SO-Arm and others. We've conducted comprehensive performance analysis covering backlash, repeatability, torque characteristics, and thermal behavior. Discover how this affordable servo performs in real-world robotic applications, including its 12-bit magnetic encoder, metal gearbox design, and overload protection mechanisms.

Our engineering team has updated the connection design.
We increased the folding angles of the joints to 270 degrees.
The manipulator can now fold completely.

Back in August, the production cost of our prototype manipulator was estimated at ~$1600 per unit (without assembly), or ~$1000 in a 100-unit batch. Our current goal: cut prototype part costs below $800, and small-series production to around $600.

- To achieve this, we simplified the design significantly:
- Reduced degrees of freedom by one (removed forearm rotation)
- Cut required part volume by ~5×
- Lowered payload capacity from 3 kg to 1.1 kg

Completed the prototype of the second node of a robotic arm using acrylic glass. Engineer Alan noted the material's fragility, suggesting polycarbonate as an alternative, though it requires milling. Initial tests focused on assembly convenience and belt positioning, with adjustments made from previous iterations. #Robotics #Engineering #Prototyping #Innovation
