It’s Beaujolais Nouveau Day — but if you really want to understand what’s in your glass, don’t stop at the party bottle.
Gamay is one of the most misunderstood grapes in the world, and Beaujolais is far more than Nouveau. If you want to get a proper grip on the styles, the villages, the crus, the structure, the soils, and why the wines taste the way they do, start here:
Understanding Gamay for WSET Level 2
Where it comes from, how it grows, key regions, and what it actually tastes like.
https://youtu.be/w7f54fRKsRs
Understanding Beaujolais for WSET Level 3
Maps, Google Earth, structure, winemaking, and a real written-exam question broken down step by step.
https://youtu.be/6SHLsRJrS88
If you want to appreciate Beaujolais beyond the hype — if you want to know the difference between Fleurie and Morgon, why carbonic maceration matters, or how Gamay can be both playful and serious — these videos will take you there.
Pour a glass, learn the region, and celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day like someone who knows what they’re talking about.

Hidden Wine Gems of Emilia Romagna
If you loved our deep dives into Italy’s regions, you’ll want to read Helena Kyriakides’ new piece on the Yummy Italy blog:
The Secret Wines of Emilia Romagna
Helena shines a light on one of Italy’s most overlooked wine regions — from the rebirth of Lambrusco to the rare grapes of the Bologna Hills like Alionza and Negretto. She explores how Emilia Romagna’s winemakers are rediscovering old varietals, perfecting sparkling wines like Pignoletto and Lambrusco di Sorbara, and crafting expressive whites such as Albana di Romagna DOCG — Italy’s first white DOCG.
Read the full article here --> yummy-italy.com/post/the-secret-wines-of-emilia-romagna
It’s a beautifully written, insider’s look at a region where tradition, food, and wine all come together. Helena has kindly linked to our Wine with Jimmy series at the end of her post — so if you want to see the vineyards and producers in action, the videos are waiting for you youtube.com/@WineWithJimmy/search?query=emilia%20r…
Let’s give Emilia Romagna the recognition it deserves — a region defined by quiet excellence, effervescence, and unforgettable flavour.

🎉 Student Success Story 🎉
We love hearing from students who’ve used our online content to prepare for their WSET exams. Here’s what William had to say after achieving his WSET Level 3 with Distinction:
“Hi I just wanted to pass on my thanks to Jimmy and the team. I studied my WSET Level 3 Award in wines and the online content was invaluable for making sure I was prepared for the classroom sessions and ultimately the exam. His style kept me engaged and helped build on my formal learning at the local wine school that I studied with. As Jimmy often says in his videos that he wants the material to give a student the chance of a distinction….. and that is what I achieved. As someone who has never worked in the wine/ hospitality industry I have no doubt that Jimmy’s content was the difference in not just passing the exam but achieving that distinction.” – William
Huge congratulations to William! 🥂 If you’re studying for WSET Level 3 (or beyond), our resources are here to help you aim for the same result.

Hi everyone,
I’m teaming up with Master the World for a special tasting on Thursday 18 September at 1PM Pacific Time. For this event, I’ve chosen six 180ml bottles from around the world (kit price $120). The theme is “Salt of the Earth.” Together, we’ll explore how different soils and landscapes leave their mark on wine – from limestone slopes to granitic hillsides, marine-influenced coasts to complex vineyards carved into the hills.
We’ll taste blind, we’ll compare notes, and I’ll guide you through connecting these wine styles back to their origins. It’s a chance to sharpen your palate, deepen your understanding of terroir, and most importantly – enjoy some brilliant bottles together.
Event details
When: Thursday 18 September 2025, 1PM Pacific
What: Six wines, blind tasting, one big theme
How: Complimentary Zoom tasting (recording available 19 Sept)
Cost: $120 for the 6-bottle kit

Wine With Jimmy
Hello everyone,
I’ve got something special lined up if you’re in Cape Town (or know friends who are). I’ll be at Culture Wine Bar, 103 Bree Street, for two big wine evenings this September — and I’d love for you to join me.
Thursday 4 September – Blighty Takeover at the Bar
It’s First Thursday, so expect a buzzing atmosphere. I’ll be behind the bar pouring some fantastic wines, chatting with guests, and sharing a taste of what I do back in London. This one’s super relaxed: no tickets, just pop in, grab a glass, and let’s talk wine.
👉 Event details culturewinebar.com/events/blightly-takeover-wine-w…
Friday 5 September – Blighty vs Bokke: The Showdown
This is where things get really exciting. We’re putting England vs South Africa head-to-head in a sit-down tasting of 16 wines — eight from each country — exploring the styles, strengths, and stories that make them unique.
And after the tasting? A proper dinner: Beef Wellington, paired with conversation and plenty of laughter. It’s going to be a brilliant evening of wine, food, and friendly rivalry.
👉 Book your seat here culturewinebar.com/events/blightly-vs-bokke/
– R1,750 includes the full tasting and dinner.
Why come along?
A rare chance to taste English wines in Cape Town alongside South African classics
An evening of storytelling and insights into two very different wine worlds
Casual takeover fun on Thursday, then a serious showdown on Friday
And of course… Beef Wellington!
If you’re in Cape Town, I’d love to see you there. And if you know friends who love wine, please share this with them.
See you soon,
Jimmy 🍷
