🚨🩺👩🏽⚕️🫁 In the early 2000s, my nephew had an “asthma attack” at the grocery store that ended with him in the hospital. 😔 Watching him struggle to breathe and seeing the RTs step in changed everything for me. I literally went back to school and changed my college major to respiratory care.
Fast forward 20+ years… he’s only had one episode since, and he and his mom know exactly what to do. I’d say they were trained well. 😉🫁
Now I want to hear from YOU: 👇🏽What MOST inspired you to choose respiratory care?
1. A family member or friend with breathing problems (asthma, COPD, CF, etc.)
2. I fell in love with cardiopulmonary science in school
3. I switched from another major and discovered I love RT
4. Job security, flexibility, and RTs are quiet superheroes in the hospital
Put your answer in the comments and give us a little bit of your WHY, real talk. 💬

Basic is not “easy”—basic is foundational and ethical.
Every respiratory skill you’ll ever learn sits on two basics:
1️⃣ Know your normal values
2️⃣ Check the chart before you provide care
Why check the chart? Here’s the example:
You walk in on a 68-year-old with COPD on 2 L/min NC, SpO₂ 89%. Nurse says, “He looks short of breath, bump him to 6 liters.”
But the chart says:
• Baseline chronic hypercapnia
• Target sats 88–92%
• Recent ABG already done
• Neb treatment given 45 minutes ago
If you skip the chart and blast him up to 6 L, you might push him way past his target, worsen CO₂ retention, and move him closer to intubation.
Reviewing patient data matters because:
• HPI & PMH frame the story
• Orders & progress notes define safe targets and the plan
• Meds/MAR show what’s already been tried
• Code status & preferences outline how far to go based on what the patient actually wants
🫁 Drop in the comments: did you ever see someone change O₂ or a vent without an order or checking the chart first? If so, what did you do about it?
📤 Share this with a study buddy who’s grinding for the TMC so y’all both build from the basics up.

‼️🚨THIS MAY BE HARD TO WATCH FOR SOME VIERWERS🚨‼️
Our hearts go out to all those impacted by the tragic crash in Kentucky. At least seven people are confirmed dead and 11 more injured after a cargo plane bound for Honolulu crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
The aircraft erupted into a ball of fire near nearby industrial businesses, prompting an ongoing investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
In this moment of profound loss, we hold space for every family, first-responder, and community member affected. May you find strength, healing & support.🙏🏾💔😢

It’s Teach It Tuesday with Your Favorite RT, Lady D! 🚨 Big changes are on the horizon for Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRTs).
👉 The CRT-to-Registry policy expires in December 2026. If you’re a CRT and want your Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential, the time to act is NOW!
Here’s what you need to know:
• After Dec 2026, CRTs will no longer qualify for the special pathway.
• The RRT credential is becoming the standard for advanced practice and career growth.
• Employers increasingly prefer or require the RRT for advancement and leadership roles.
⸻
Steps to Registry (CRT ➡️ RRT):
1️⃣ Confirm Your CRT Credential – Make sure it’s active.
2️⃣ Apply for the TMC Exam – Select the Registry (RRT) pathway on the NBRC site.
3️⃣ Pass the TMC at the High Cut Score – Only the high cut score makes you eligible for the CSE.
4️⃣ Apply for & Pass the CSE – Earn your RRT credential and take your career to the next level. 🎉
⸻
Why It Matters:
✅ The RRT is the gold standard in respiratory care.
✅ It opens doors to better pay, leadership roles, and advanced practice opportunities.
✅ The deadline is FINAL — don’t risk losing your pathway.
⸻
⚡ Don’t wait. Take action NOW! Visit NBRC.org today and start your RRT journey before it’s too late.
