History and Relics

Most everything and everyone has a story and/or history to tell. Sometimes the relics are separated from their story, facts get misinterpreted, people forget thus the stories or histories get forgotten, or they are lost. But, that's where we shine.

We love finding vintage relics especially those pertaining to baseball and football memorabilia, military relics (primarily WWII, Korea), and presidential items and researching out their interesting histories and intriguing stories. We also love coming across relics of celebrities or dignitaries to which we'll visit historical places or go to events and share with you those people, places and things.

History and Relics puts the histories and the stories back with the relics that made it all possible for us to remember and enjoy!

History and Relics generally publishes new content on Fridays every 7 to 14 days - depending on work schedules.

Please subscribe today so you don't miss out on our next exciting journey! Thank you!

History and Relics

Friends and followers, just want to take a moment to let you know that I have been working on acquiring some new pieces of baseball and air race memorabilia that will surely be in a future full-length docu-video.

Speaking of videos, I’m taking a short break (first in 5 years since starting the channel) to wrap up the last family excursion of 2025. I’ve also been busy doing research on a number of recent acquisitions, gathering information, history, and facts. So, I thank you in advance for your patience. I promise there are some great stories headed your way beginning in early November.

Lastly, I would like to welcome my new subscribers and followers. I appreciate and thank you all of you for your continued support, likes, thumbs up, and shares.

See you all real soon. Be well.

Blessings 🙏

History and Relics

Friday, September 26th will be our next docu-video featuring the history of the B-29 Superfortress and Lunken Airport.

Why this plane and why this airport? Well, that’s because the second half of this upcoming video will feature our grand experience aboard DOC, a B-29 Superfortress at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Our excursion took place on August 31st, which coincidentally was the original schedule date of Japan’s surrender to the U.S. 80 years ago. But, due to inclement weather, the official signing was postponed until September 2, 1945.

Over and above all this, it was also a time to celebrate my dad, 5th Army Air Force CPL Robert W. Heffner who was once a crew member aboard a B-29 while stationed at Kimpo AFB in Korea during the early days of the Cold War 1947-1949.

This will be jammed pack full of history, intrigue, fun, and excitement so don’t miss this great video experience!

Starting tomorrow 09/12/2025 at 8:15PM, join us for a great NEW story featuring Joe Madrid Gonzales.

Joe Madrid Gonzales may not be a name you recognize, but he certainly has an interesting past of once being a great pitching prospect that got him to the major leagues playing alongside Boston Red Sox baseball greats Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr followed by working for a period of time with Aircraft manufacturer North American Aviation during World Warr II, to later spending 20 seasons officiating in the National Football league including being a field judge in Super Bowl III.

History and Relics

NEW VIDEO PREMIERE this Wednesday, July 16th at 8:15PM (EST).

If you collect baseball bats, especially early/vintage models, this show is for you! My video this week focuses on the duty of care one must have when caring for and preserving these great tools - some of which are at or over 100 years old now.

Mr. Jim Keating, a collector, historian, and someone who knows a thing or two about cleaning, restoring, and preserving baseball bats is my very special guest on the program. I had privilege of meeting up with Jim at his home in northern Michigan where he not only showed me around his own outstanding collection of memorabilia, but he also provided some healthy insight that we can all use in caring for and protecting our bats.

So, with a little bit of history on the topic followed a lot of great insight, advice, and expertise, this show is bound to provide some great information that we can all use so our bats can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Please please join us Wednesday evening. We look forward to seeing you there!

History and Relics

Hi everyone! Hoping this message finds you all happy and well.

I want to provide you with a channel update. During the last few weeks we have been on the road. We driven through southern Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida only to head back towards home but continued traveling North into Michigan and all around the upper peninsula. After over 4500 miles traveled, we’re finally back home in Cleveland and during the next several weeks I’ll be putting new videos together featuring such things as great baseball artifacts I’ve found and acquired as well as share with you all places we’ve traveled that have great stories and historical significances.

In addition to new videos that will includes full-length docu-videos to shorts, please also be sure to visit our Facebook page that will feature other smaller stories and photos of things we’ve seen in our travels.

We are excited and can’t wait to share with you all these new stories coming soon. So, stay tuned!!

As always, we appreciate you all and thank you for being here!

Best Regards,

John

History and Relics

Hey Everyone, Please join us Wednesday, May 14th at 8:15pm (EST) for our latest documentary-video featuring Crestline, Ohio’s baseball great Gates Brown!

We’ve spent the last few months doing research on this story and gathering some great memorabilia to share with all of you.

Gates Brown played with the Detroit Tigers from 1963-1975 and while he played baseball and football at a young age in school, you’ll never guess where he honed his craft that got him recognized by MLB Scouts - prison! That’s right, Brown was recruited out of the Mansfield Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio.

He went on to be a World Series Champion as a player in 1968 and as a coach in 1984. An extraordinary story of a man whose life started going in the wrong direction at an early age but with great talent, a little luck, an opportunity, and hard work and perseverance, Gates Brown’s story is a story of a successful second chance that took him from the prison yard to the World Series.

Do not miss this fascinating story that also includes a special appearance by 2-time AL Cy Young award winner and last pitcher in MLB history to win 30 or more games in a season - Denny McLain who will share with you his memories of Gates along with his version of the famous “Hot Dog” story!
