We live in modern times and we can access many books, while people in the past had to travel to gain access.

This picture is from the book: Hermetic Triumph, the old man is an Adept and teach the initiate. On the sides you can see the 4 elements, and inside the tree Sun and the Moon and the 5 stars which represents the planets.

The circles above the tree is the Great Work of the Philosophers.
