I'm surprised some people don't know you can actually get yam in Portugal, it's not common though.
Check the local market around you.
There's a local market at Baixa Da Banheira, it's close to the Continente at Alhos Vedros.
They open on Wednesdays & Fridays between 9am and 1pm. You can get your yams there but it's not guaranteed that you will see yams each time you go there, so keep that in mind.
