الأوامر والنواهي نفسها كثيرا ما تختزل في تراثنا الفقهي وفي الفقه المعاصر فيما أطلق عليه فقهاء المذاهب (آيات الأحكام)، والتي حصروها في بضع مئات من الآيات التي تشمل على أوامر ونواهي مذكورة في صيغ لغوية مباشرة، ثم ساهمت نظريات النسخ في إلغاء عمل عشرات من هذه الآيات بدعوى (دفع التعارض) بين الآيات وبعضها، وأضافوا لذلك أحاديث الرسول - صلى الله عليه وسلم - التي ظنوا فيها التعارض فادعو فيها نسخا أو ترجيحا عند هذا المذهب أو ذاك، وهي كذلك تشتمل على أوامر أو نواهي مباشرة.
