I've re-joined an old project, which will need my full attention and time ahead. Because of it, I wont be able to make more then a video per month. I'm still interested in keeping the War Maps project alive, and I will attempt to do so - but I need to think about projects that will actually pay the bills.
Revenue wise YT was always the worst and near complete waste of time. As I explained it once, I would earn more money collecting empty bottles around town and bringing them to the recycle bin.
What I loved about War Maps and what kept me going was the community aspect of it and its verbal support. I've enjoyed making the first few videos and figuring out how to do them, but after those first few videos it becomes looking like the worst paying job.
Please note that this is not a call for people to join the channel and support it financially. After about 40M views, about 6 people support it (from those 6 people I get about $6 per month in total, due to tax and commission). So the amount of begging that I would need to do to get perhaps 1 or 2 more people to join the channel and support it financially (which almost all creators in the war section need to do to survive) is just not worth it.
As said, I still like ocasionally animating a map, but since it's a lot of work, I had to seriously tone down the time I put into the project. The milestone of 100k subs will need to be achieved at a later date. Having 100k wouldn't anyway change anything.
A more proper sum up of the latest poll: Why doesn't anyone want to join Russian sphere of influence but rather it needs to wage war and enforce itself on others by brute force? In comparison with NATO / EU whose members come in willingly.
I at least personally do not count North Korea as a meaningful choice, China neither, nor Iran. Who wants its cleric class to rule the country - that just has to be a flawed choice - in my personal opinion.
Talking about personal opinions - of a mere random mapper (drunk on Canadian Whiskey currently), multipolar world has to exist, so no one has the choice of overpowering the entire world with what are certain to be poor choices, Western or otherwise. We at least all have to admit we all have our flaws - and difference of opinions have to exist (which are harshly supressed in the most of Eastern / Global South parts of the globe - just I imagine due to their general weakness and instability [present in the West as well, but allowed in the general discource]).
I'm well aware Easterners / Global South make the most of the viewers on this channel (RU being the #1 by viewer count), but I'm not interested in having you if we can't have an open discussion. Wreck my bias please, thanks.
Next, we'll cover Dnipropetrovsk Eastern region - starting from November 2025 - to see how the situation was developing running up and through the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
I'll be curious to see how our km2 measurements compare to what we've been hearing on the TV. We'll also make the final comparison at the end date to the Russian map source - DIVGEN. The main source will be ISW.
The next map will be of the 'Fortress Belt' (Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka) - based on ISW. To curb the complaints with anyone's preferred sources, a comparison against DivGen will be made at the end of videos.
The idea is to make several zoomed-out maps of the most developing frontlines, and several zoomed-in maps of cities / more narrow regions - and attempting to make 'regular' updates on each.
I got caught up with another project and will need to slow down updates for the War Maps YT channel - for some time. The project is completely unrelated to War Maps and YouTube. I will do my best to figure out how to organize my time better ahead to not feel like WM isn't getting any time put into it. Sorry about that!

Who do you support in the Iran war (because we - the random people on the internet have a say on the matter)?
