Do we have any musicians in the house? 🎺🎹🥁I played piano for almost 10 years (but that’s a different story for a different day) and I believe that there are critical elements that all musicians learn when it comes to practice that gives them a huge advantage for acquiring the skill. And I believe those same skills can be applied to language learning, too!

So, that’s what I want to share with you in this week’s video. I’d love to hear if this topic resonated with you.

Has it ever happened that you understand English well in certain settings, but when it comes to listening to casual conversations between people, it’s harder to keep up?

In this week’s video, we’re going to work on exactly that, with what I like to call a ‘ping-pong’ conversation. It’s fast, playful and a little flirty 🤭 with a scene from the show First Dates.

I hope you like it!

Have you ever heard of the term ‘Accent reduction’? This week I want to share with you what I think about the term (you might be surprised!), what acquiring an accent actually takes, and what predictable pronunciation means.

After you watch the video, I want you to tell me which you choose!

This week on the channel, I had the chance to interview one of my dear students, Glenda. When Glenda moved to the US, she could barely speak English, drive, and felt terrified to answer phone calls or turn on her camera in Zoom calls.

Fast forward to today: She has her own dog training business and hosts conversation groups and book clubs, all in English, and all in a much more confident version of herself ♥️

I LOVED this interview, and I hope you enjoy Glenda's inspirational story too!

Did someone say…new Sprint!? If you love my daily 10-minute exercises then I’ve got good news for you, this week, I’ve got a new daily Sprint! It’s 10 minutes, (ok, maybe 11 😉) and it’s got a little bit of everything: muscle warm ups, tip of the tongue consonants, vowel exercises, and tongue twisters.

I hope you like this new Sprint!

Who’s ready to read out loud? ✋ This week, we’re reading an excerpt from a book that is so popular with my students (I love it too), Atomic Habits, Chapter 2. (I already have a video on Chapter 1!)

I love this book because it breaks down what it takes to build a habit in a simple and understandable way. The foundations taught in this book also apply to language learning – We talk about habits all the time in my course New Sound and in my community Beyond!

Motivation is temporary. We can’t depend on motivation to keep us motivated all the time to practice English. What we need are HABITS. And this chapter talks about how to build those habits that will make your English practice (or any other habit 😉) become a part of your identity

Happy Tuesday! This week, I’ve got a new video for you. But this video is a little different. It’s more personal, and it doesn’t have any pronunciation or strategy tips inside. I’m getting real, and sharing the 10 things that I absolutely LOVE about being a non-native speaker.

Because no matter what others may think, I truly believe that being a non-native speaker is our superpower.

I loved recording this video and sharing my thoughts with you, and I’d love to hear from you. What do YOU love about being a non-native speaker?
