Koreans eat taffy or glutinous rice cake before taking an important exam. Taffy is similar to candy and is made by boiling rice or sweet potatoes for a long time. And glutinous rice cake is made with glutinous rice and palm. However, both foods do not come off easily once they stick together. In Korean, the phrase 'to blow in the exam' means 'to pass the exam', so people think 'if you eat taffy or glutinous rice cake, you will pass the exam.'

한국 사람들은 중요한 시험을 보기 전에 엿이나 찹쌀떡을 먹습니다. 엿은 사탕하고 비슷한데 쌀이나 고구마를 오랫동안 끓여서 만듭니다. 그리고 찹쌀떡은 찹쌀과 팔으로 만듭니다. 그런데 두 음식은 모두 한번 붙으면 잘 떨어지지 않습니다. 한국말에서는 '시험에 불다'는 말이 '시험에 합격하다'의 뜻이기 때문에 '엿이나 찹쌀떡을 먹으면 시험에 합격할 거예요.'라고 사람들이 생각합니다.
