Here’s something that ended up in the papers.
Rubin “Hurricane” Carter had knocked Holly Mims out cold in sparring.
Holly Mims scored the first knockdown of Rubin’s career, dropping him on the ropes for an 8 count. Dec. 22nd 1962,
By 1963, Rube was HUNGRY for a TITLE SHOT, and the man who held it was TIGER, and Rubin was doing more of the chasing and stalking.
He beat George Benton by Split Decision in a magnificent performance that truly indicates Rubin “Hurricane” Carter wasn’t just a heavyhanded hype-job, because at the time GEORGE BENTON was considered an uncrowded champion, on his way.
HOLLY MIMS and GOMEO BRENNAN were two VERY CREDIBLE back to back victories in my book.
Still on the hunt for a that title,
He’d knock out Emile Griffith 5 days prior to Christmas in Dec. of 1963.

Yes, Dick Tiger (born Richard Ihetu) was a Christian. He was an ethnic Igbo from the predominantly Christian region of southeastern Nigeria, and his roots trace back to the area of St. Gregory Catholic Church in Amaigbo, Imo State.
