What’s your favorite position?

No, not that kind! We’re talking about meditation of course.

Whether you’re a famous pop star or degen gamer, we all need some meditation in our lives 😌 🧘

It can really help us be present, calm our minds, and understand ourselves more deeply.

It isn’t easy though. In fact, it’s common to start and stop, or not want to start at all, because it’s something we’re not used to.

We’re busy people living in a technology-obsessed world. We’re constantly trying to be productive or getting distracted or chase that next dopamine hit.

It’s no wonder slowing down and being mindful is so difficult.

But if you’re looking for a sign to start meditating–this is it!

You don’t have to be like those monks who meditate for hours at a time. Start with basic meditation a few minutes each day. As you get comfortable with it, you can increase the amount of time you spend meditating.

If you want to understand the history and science behind meditation as well as different practices (different practices work for different people), check out the Meditation module in Dr. K’s Guide to Mental Health. This could be a good jumping off point for your meditation journey:

Do you stress out in social situations? If so, you’re definitely not alone.

There’s all this pressure to be funny, charming, smart, and interesting while also trying not to say something awkward.

All these thoughts are bouncing around in your head.

“Should I say this? Should I say that? What will make this person like me?”

You may seem calm on the outside, but you’re treading water underneath the surface, trying to stay afloat.

You want to make friends, but it feels impossible sometimes.

The good news is that conversing with people is a skill just like any other. So even if you struggle with it now, you can definitely get better at it.

If you want to start improving your conversational skills and feel more at ease in social situations, we have two great resources that can help you.

How do you get motivated? Do you wait for it to hit, or do you take action, even when it feels like you’re trying to push a boulder up a hill?

What often happens is we slowly talk ourselves out of doing the thing we need to do.

Our inner voice can be so good at making us believe we can’t achieve our goals. We spiral, and eventually, we start to believe we can’t do anything right.

If we convince ourselves we can’t do it before we even start, we save ourselves the embarrassment of trying and then failing, which seems worse than not trying at all.

But our brains don’t always have our best interests at heart. If we always base our actions on fear, we’d never achieve anything.

It’s uncomfortable to deal with, but success always comes with failures. You HAVE to stumble and fail before you see results.

For most of us, motivation rarely comes from waiting around. You have to create motivation by doing the thing you don’t want to do.

Instead, think about slowly building a habit. If you want to work out more, for example, start by working out 15 minutes a few times a week, then keep increasing the time/frequency.

Start small and keep things interesting by changing up your workouts once in a while. And do it even when you’d rather be doing anything else. You got this! 💚😊

If you have trouble getting motivated or sticking to a routine, working with a coach could help! HG coaches have been where you are and can help you understand what’s holding you back and find ways to keep you accountable.

Do you ever find yourself trivializing your desires?

Maybe you’re yearning for the love and affection you get from being in a relationship. Maybe it’s more money. More friends. More likes on social media.

We often talk harshly to ourselves. Judging, berating, calling ourselves names.

If we trivialize our desires, we suppress who we really are
and that will only come out in unhealthy ways down the road.

When a friend comes to us with a problem or a confession, do we talk to them this way?

If you’re a good friend, you’ll try to be supportive and kind. Talk to yourself like you would to a friend. After all, our desires make us human.

For example, if you have the desire to cheat on your partner, it doesn’t necessarily make you a bad person. It’s how you act that determines your character.

Get to the bottom of it. If you want to cheat, you need to examine where that desire is coming from and communicate with your partner about it so you can work things out.

Whether we realize it or not, we’re all on a journey of self-discovery. There are lots of ups and downs. If you want a tool that can guide along your mental healthy journey, check out Dr. K’s Guide to Mental Health, which includes modules on Trauma, ADHD, Meditation, Anxiety, and Depression:
