“I really hope I don’t say something dumb at this party. What do I say? How do I say it? What will make them think I’m interesting?”
“Everything’s gone so smoothly today. I just know something’s going to happen to screw it all up….”
These are the kinds of pervasive thoughts that can seep into your brain if you have anxiety.
They can be so debilitating that you might believe you ARE your anxiety. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
You are NOT your anxiety. It can feel like it, especially in moments where it overwhelms you and all you can do is stress.
But think of it differently. It’s this thing that follows you around, influencing your thoughts and feelings, causing you to catastrophize and worry about the future.
Whenever that voice exaggerates your negative thoughts and brings you down, inhale and exhale deeply, and talk back. Give it some attitude.
It may not disappear completely, but you might find that voice getting softer and softer the more you do it. You can even talk to it out loud if you have to.
It’s always easier to manage anxiety when you have tools at your disposal. If you want to gain a deeper understanding of where anxiety comes from, how it manifests in your mind, and strategies to manage it, Check out the Anxiety module in Dr. K’s Guide to Mental Health: 💚 bit.ly/3ErEH7Y

No, not that kind! We’re talking about meditation of course.
Whether you’re a famous pop star or degen gamer, we all need some meditation in our lives 😌 🧘
It can really help us be present, calm our minds, and understand ourselves more deeply.
It isn’t easy though. In fact, it’s common to start and stop, or not want to start at all, because it’s something we’re not used to.
We’re busy people living in a technology-obsessed world. We’re constantly trying to be productive or getting distracted or chase that next dopamine hit.
It’s no wonder slowing down and being mindful is so difficult.
But if you’re looking for a sign to start meditating–this is it!
You don’t have to be like those monks who meditate for hours at a time. Start with basic meditation a few minutes each day. As you get comfortable with it, you can increase the amount of time you spend meditating.
If you want to understand the history and science behind meditation as well as different practices (different practices work for different people), check out the Meditation module in Dr. K’s Guide to Mental Health. This could be a good jumping off point for your meditation journey: 💚 bit.ly/42wCFwB
How do you get motivated? Do you wait for it to hit, or do you take action, even when it feels like you’re trying to push a boulder up a hill?
What often happens is we slowly talk ourselves out of doing the thing we need to do.
Our inner voice can be so good at making us believe we can’t achieve our goals. We spiral, and eventually, we start to believe we can’t do anything right.
If we convince ourselves we can’t do it before we even start, we save ourselves the embarrassment of trying and then failing, which seems worse than not trying at all.
But our brains don’t always have our best interests at heart. If we always base our actions on fear, we’d never achieve anything.
It’s uncomfortable to deal with, but success always comes with failures. You HAVE to stumble and fail before you see results.
For most of us, motivation rarely comes from waiting around. You have to create motivation by doing the thing you don’t want to do.
Instead, think about slowly building a habit. If you want to work out more, for example, start by working out 15 minutes a few times a week, then keep increasing the time/frequency.
Start small and keep things interesting by changing up your workouts once in a while. And do it even when you’d rather be doing anything else. You got this! 💚😊
