Hello again, there is a small update from the dev team. They hear how people are mostly disappointed with the most recent update and have published a small article, basically saying they will do a small balance patch on December 23rd. I am not expecting Asuka changes but I would love to be proven wrong. Hopefully, someone at Arcsys noticed how most top Asukas dropped him. Here is the announcement if you want to read the full article:

www.guiltygear.com/ggst/en/news/post-2398/

If you are curious about what I have been doing, all I will say is that I am now playing super casually and haven't entered a tournament since my last livestream, nor have I had the motivation to enter a tournament. Still, according to rating update, I am the 4th best Asuka*, and I believe in a few days I will be the 3rd best Asuka*, and a week or so after that, I will be the 2nd best Asuka*. Not because I got better, but simply because a lot of the top Asukas seem to be dropping him. This is due to rating update not counting any profiles if the standard deviation on their rating is greater or equal to 30.

Zando has already stated he has basically abandoned Asuka. Gobou played Asuka recently on the 15th, but that's after a nearly month-long break from Asuka. Druice currently has a standard deviation of 26 and has been playing Johnny way more consistently than the little they play of Asuka. When I talked to Druice and asked if they are still playing Asuka, they said "as of now no, will update you once we get ahold of the patch". Maoking currently has a standard deviation of 15 and hasn't played since December 7th, with the last time they played before that being November 24th. It doesn't look like they are even playing other characters. Again don't forget the huge disclaimer that this is all just a rating update analysis. For all I know, any of the other Asukas I mentioned may just be grinding tournaments and might just be ignoring tower (though I doubt that...)

*Having number 2 next to my name doesn't suddenly make me the second-best Asuka. I still believe Gobou, Zando, and Druice are better Asukas than me, but they just haven't been playing Asuka since the balance patch (the only reason I'm not listing Maoking is because I have never seen any of their gameplay, I just know they have consistently been top ~5 on Asuka in rating update for a long time). I would say OrdinaryMagician and SolarisXT are also either as good or better than me but they haven't played almost any of the new season, however, they both said they plan on playing Asuka still, life has just gotten too busy for them to focus on funny wizard man at the moment.

Unfortunately, this will be a hollow "victory", but it is slightly motivating. If I am really one of the "best" Asukas left then I want to make sure that this character still gets shown off in tournaments, Asuka is just way too cool for people to not see his gameplay. I still haven't fought a lot of the huge problem MU's this patch (Axl, Johnny, Bedman, Sin, I-No, and Chipp), nor have I fought top-level players that really know the MU, BUT I have access to methods to fight these people and character. I just can't promise I will be motivated enough to.

If you read all of this, thank you for still being invested in me, and here is a bonus clip that I recently got. https://youtu.be/Bg8Az_Km7q8

TL:DR I don't enjoy playing Strive/Asuka anymore + I'm washed + I don't have any new clips so I won't be posting anything anytime soon + L + Ratio. Prepare for a long read if this isn't enough for you lol.

Guys I'm ngl I don't have fun playing strive/Asuka anymore, I'll probably still watch it but I'm super washed, I haven't seriously played for a long time and I'm actually losing games on floor 10 lol. I also don't really have any new clips of new game play so probably don't expect any clips anytime soon. It was super fun while I was doing it though, and I really appreciate everyone chiming in with comments on my videos/streams/posts, it's nice to be a super niche F tier internet celebrity lol. I do read every single comment but I need to go and reply to the last bunch, I haven't done that for a while. I kind of feel like I'm putting that off in the same way one would delay watching the finale of a show, as to not end a good thing yet. I might come back, but that's super unlikely. I might still play the game every now and then but I doubt I'll be super active on this channel so rip. And sorry about blue balling everyone with my guide, I still do have that mostly typed up and I'm probably just gonna somehow upload that document if anyone wants it, I don't have the effort/willpower/motivation to make that into a video lol.

Anyways I wanna shout out a few cool people I've met through this funny fighting game:

SkylarOVA: She's the GOAT, and is arguably the main reason I ever got good at this game. Here's the story: This happened near the release of strive, with it being my first ever fighting game. Last round, if I lost it's back to floor 10, but if I win, I get celestial for the 1st time. She hit me with charged dust, and I slumped back in my chair, until I saw she weren't doing a combo. Then she just let me smack her after landing, letting me into celestial. I was sick of bouncing between floor 10 and the celestial challenge so if I lost that I probably would've dropped strive and went back to grinding Apex legends lol. Then we traded discords and have been chatting ever since then. Then she was telling me about CEO and encouraged me to go, and I eventually did. She helped me by letting me stay in her hotel room (along with 4 other people) and even brought an air mattress for me to sleep on since I wasn't super comfterble with the idea of sharing a hotel bed with someone I didn't know at the time lol. She lended me her controller adapter so I could get 25th at my first irl major. And she drove us around and was able to drop me off at the spot where could catch a bus back to the airport. She's the GOAT for sure.

Void Room: He actually made the crab art that is on my most recent stream, that was super cool of him to offer to me. I've always enjoyed chatting about Asuka/music/whatever comes up. Now he post more clips than me so he's basically my spiritual successor lol.

Heruestic Girl (aka Asuka Girl aka waitingforzato-1i-noinguil301, she's the one that does the super long comments on and Asuka video on the high level gameplay channel): I don't think there's a person out there who knows more about what the top Asuka players are thinking, better than Asuka girl. She's always writing super interesting comments on the high level gameplay channel and it's always been nice to see one of her comments on my videos/streams. She's the only reason I know about the shadow nerfs Asuka got this season (if you're really curious about thay you can go to her channel, on the video called "She has an Axl?" And find the super long chain of comments we had. Be ready to read for a while lol.

skel0: I meet skel0 irl at CEO during friendlies (or casuals? I can never remember the fgc appropriate version lol) and he actually recognized my tag so that was really cool. Iirc he was from Argentina (or maybe Venezuela sorry skel0) so technically I have worldwide recognition! Anyways it was cool to play friendlies with him throughout all of CEO and it was really fun to talk about the absurd Sol stuff I've labbed just for fun, with someone who is just as passionate about that.

Eve/asukashousewife on twitter: so far she is the only friend I've made through twitter, I try to avoid that website and interactions on there as much as I can but she DMd me and declared me her "oomfie". Anyways, it was always fun chatting about recent tournaments/Asuka placements and she showed me that maybe everyone on Twitter aren't soulless monsters that just argue for fun lol.

Domi: I haven't interacted with Domi a bunch but I believe he probably has some of the best strive videos out there (might be tied with lordknight but personally I prefer Domis interviews/videos). Though I'm biased since he had me on to talk about Asuka, which I'm still very grateful for, and I'm glad he gave me that opportunity. I think I did Asuka justice for that video. Hope he keeps up the banger content. Plus the Lois pfp is so based GO PLAY METAPHORE REFANTAZIO IF YOU LIKE JRPGS it's literally persona 5 but better in every way but music (this is coming from a persona 5 DIEHARD fan trust me)

UPGRAYDEDD: I met him in tower and after we tried to have a conversation through the tower messaging system we just traded discords. He plays Pot and we talked about the MU a lot, and it was really cool to see him get better at the MU as we played more and more. Turns out he injured his hand/fingers in a boxing fight so he has a very unorthodox controller scheme and was unable to do certain techniques like jumpscare potemkin buster. Lemme tell you, when he finally hit me with one of those, it felt like I was seeing something forbidden, it was so cool to see. Plus he tells really good stories, just a cool dude overall.

Daimond: I also met Daimond irl at CEO, after I beat him 3-0 in bracket (he plays I-no fyi) he asked me for MU help, and he was super receptive to help and was super willing to learn. It was super cool to see him improve in the MU as we played more throughout the tournament.

Also shout out to more people I haven't interacted with as much, but still found really cool: ChocoChips, Worth, KURI, Jembo, Ordinary Magician, MeatGolf2, Mixyous, KingAfrica, SolarisXT, and Lurry, especially Lurry. Really enjoyed chatting/interacting with all of y'all.

And last but DEFINITELY not least, the people that frequently commented on my videos/posts/livestreams. Off of the top of my head, I can name blueeggs (tp), AJ popcorn something (with their pfp being sol on a yellow background), Ben, noola gaming, milkgore, Dea (then random letters/numbers), colboy, faith, theambassador, zikradvd, Alexander Something (I see him only in livestreams iirc) professorgames, protodot, and some more I can't remember rn. I will be honest, some of the names I had to check again just to make sure I spelt them right, but I'd recognize all of these mostly from the pfp and not the tag lol.

As I'm writing this it's the night of Thanksgiving, so I think that's what made me reflect and really think about what I'm thankful for. I'm thankful for you guys interacting with my channel in any way, be it through watching, sharing, commenting or liking. I'm sorry that sounds so engagement bait-y but it's true, I'm genuinely happy other people enjoyed the wacky Asuka clips/moments as much as I do.

Idk how to end this so here's some fun data points for all the number nerds out there: my channel has accumulated:

415,329 total views

5,044.1 hours of watch time

595 subs (you could've figured this one out lol)

And 0$ in revenue lol, I never expected to see any money from this channel so that's to be expected. However, here's how much money I've earned from playing strive.

200+15+50+30+20+25+5

For a total of 345 dollars. That's a lot more than I thought I'm ngl!!! But when you consider how long I've been playing this game (On the PS5/PS4 version of strive alone 1,673 hours and 2 minutes according to my R code, so maybe an extra 40-60 hours from my PC version) that comes out to about 20 cents an hour. That's way more than I make playing other video games lol! And considering I bought strive on PS4 (60$) plus season one dlc pass (20$ iirc?), Asuka (7$ iirc?), blazing edition of strive on PC (80$ on sale), plus the plane ticket for flying to CEO, plus the cost of buying food while there... I don't think I ended with a net positive lol.

ALL OF THAT YAPPING TO SAY.... thank you genuinely if you read this far. You're the kind of person I've been uploading daily clips for, and the type of person that motivated me to be better at the video game so my streams can be better. Thank you, and I hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for everything and I will still be lurking in the community, probably.

PATCH NOTES DROPPED AND THERE ARE ASUKA CHANGES

Overall he was nerfed, kinda? I'd describe it more as shifting his power and making his strings less "infinite", here's a summary:

-NERF: 6P has more recovery (universal change)
-NERF: Cubes super has INCREASED RECOVER, DECREASED HITSTOP :((((((

now it will be less plus and create less distance with opponent on block (the last part would make him more plus, but I am wondering how much they "increased recovery")

-NERF/BUFF: Card super has increased time, inputting left or right will swap test cases. Increased mana depletion and the depletion steadily increases as time goes on. The mana discount card will help slow that rate down though.

I'm very interested to see how this will go, it is hard to say anything certain without seeing the actual numbers. I'm hyped to see what I can do with this though!

-MOSTLY NERF BUT KINDA BUFF? Recover mana (continuous) has an increased mana recovery rate, but a decreased effect duration. However, the effect duration now continues to count down during hitstop, and mana does NOT RECOVER WHILE HITSOP IS TRIGGERED BY THE OPPONENT

Overall this is definitely a nerf, as you can't yolo mana card and survive combos off of a tiny bit of mana. However, if you are not getting hit, you will get your mana back at faster rate! I assume the total impact is still the same (90% mana bar) so assuming that is true, it is a buff as long as you aren't getting hit

-TC2 BUFF: Recover Mana instant no longer discards any spells! It now has a standardized recovery amount, regardless of cards bookmarked.

This is actually huge and might become the main way Asuka is going to get mana back. Again, hard to tell without seeing the numbers.

-TC2 BUFF: Bookmark random import now bookmarks spells in all slots, regardless of currently bookmarked spells.

If I am reading this right, it just seems like a better card getting card than the TC1 card getting card (forgot what it's called lol). Seems like a huge buff

-Useless? BUFF: low pass filter staff: decreased altitude limit for air dash while staff is down

I don't see the point of this, since Asuka already had an 18F overhead with jD while this staff was up. But hey I won't complain about getting millia high low mix lol.

-Buff? Delayed Tardus Metron: horizontal movement speed now increased while high pass filter gravity staff is down

Currently, if you do a tardus while the high filter staff is down, the cube just kinda bounces up and down. This was very funny, so I am sad this is gone. It probably is a buff but I'm gonna miss this lol.

WTF??? Aquila Metron: The start of the attack can no longer be canceled into Overdrives

WTF this was a thing? I gotta test this rn, you're telling me I could've been doing wakeup DP into super while being invincible??????

-BIG NERF: Bit shift metron can no longer start at 5 cubes, now ALL start at 1 cube, increased mana cost. However, the time for it to increase in level, has decreased.

This is a pretty big nerf, now we can't top deck 5 fire cubes anymore. Guess we're gonna have to see how fast the increase rate is now.

-NERF and small buff maybe? RMS boost metron (lightning books) now has decreased damage at level 1 and 2, and increased damage at level 3, 4, and 5. DECREASED DURATION OF GUARD CRUSH :((((, however, guard crush duration extends corresponding to the number of spells (11) activated.

So far this is a nerf, however, it depends on how much the damage ramps up at levels 3, 4, and 5, and how much guard crush gets extended the higher the level is.

OVERALL I am interested to see how Asuka does, but this feels like mostly nerfs. Not hopeless, but I think it will be a little harder for me to farm clips lol. What do you think? And thanks for reading this far!

I'm gonna stream a tournament in two hours, not a PC stream, yet since I still haven't figured out how to properly set it up lol.

Edit: I won't have a mic for this stream, unfortunately.

x.com/im_Vega1/status/1835775338070056965

Vega, a VERY good Millia player, has announced a healthier alternative to rating update that is currently being worked on that ONLY factors your tournament runs! He plans to announce more details when the October patch drops, so look out for that! Here is the Twitter page of the website:

x.com/ICARUSELO

I was VERY curious about this so I asked him a ton of questions in DM's and he was very helpful and answered thoroughly, so here's the whole conversation we had! LONG post ahead, everything after this is the nitty gritty of this so if you just want the big picture you can stop here. Obviously, everything said here isn't set in stone, so don't be surprised if the final website is a bit different than what is described here.

Will only the end result of a tournament set matter? For example, will going 2-3 and 0-3 have the same effect?

**"As for results only the win or loss will matter. You don't have to worry about losing 1 game and losing a million points like rating update haha. All that matters is the set score. If you win the set you gain points if you lose the set you lose points. All scaled according to elo of course."**

(new question)

I saw you say it will be linked to start gg, will it somehow include how "stacked" a tournament is when doing calculations? For example, will TNS be more impactful than a backpack brawl or Jeekly?

(new question)

*"As for how tournaments will be weighted there will be a longer video posted in the coming days that will explain it more in-depth but, the TLDR is that for online tournaments, they will all be weighted the same but will have to meet an attendance/high elo requirement. This ensures that high elo players don't farm 10 man brackets while also making sure that people have a "safe place" to go to smaller tournaments to practice without stress. As for what that requirement is, its still being determined and will def get tuning after launch to see what people like."*

(new question)

And for the top 32 thing, I assume this will be an online event? How will this factor for people all around the world? I imagine Gobou will be doing well, will he just have to deal with the netcode when fighting anyone from the USA?

*"As for offline tournaments it will dynamically scale in weight based off attendance and high elo attendance. Stuff like evo will be worth way more points then say a regional for example. And currently on launch it will start with only NA. For right now, once other regions are added they will have to have their own elo independent elo leaderboard as mixing them like that all the time doesnt really work mathematically. But for majors and stuff where they are bound to meet there is a plan that will be put in more detail a bit later. But all of this is still heavily open to player and TO feedback."*

(new question)

Just from what you've given me, I am curious if you should factor the difference between going 0-3 in a set and 2-3 in a set. On one hand, it is probably reassuring to know that despite losing a game you can still end up positive, but on the other side, it would make going 2-3 BRUTAL. Though I think that is just the nature of competing, but it feels like it will be amplified with the winners take all nature of scoring.

*"This was actually an idea that was tested very early on in development and it ended up going in such a way that it made things work out really weird mathematically and also inflated elo very high very quickly so we decided to remove it. Thats not to say it won't be something added if a lot of people say they would like it but I personally would like to see how it plays out without it first before implementing it again due to the small sample size I tested it with"*

That makes sense, plus it would at least be different enough from the rating update way of measuring elo. Not sure why the math would be wonky there but maybe it can be visited later if needed. Just curious, how did you test this already? Just by using existing online tournaments? And if so, how would that be a low sample size?

*"Yep, just by using existing tournaments. And I was testing on a scale of 5-10 tournaments not a scale of a lot more of that which would be reality. And the big issue was just the inflation of elo being very quick. In a fgc tournament you are only losing 2 games and winning a lot more than that. Currently that inflation is relatively tame and managed by the equation, but when you start messing with how much people lose it gets to be a bit much from my initial testing off of just a few tournaments.
The issue with elo inflation that quickly being that players who dont enter often have an even harder time catching up while also penalizing those who play when they lose off a greater amount bc they are elo inflated. Although it would feel good in the short run to "gain more" by losing less it would feel bad when they lost way more for losing to someone they should be losing to anyways.
At least that was the initial interpretation but once again if things change id be happy to re implement it if thats what people want"*

oh my god you're right people win WAY more than losing, assuming they go far that sounds like a nightmare to figure out sound math for that good luck lol I got no advice for that.

*"Luckily it seems that its fine when the losses are equal to the gains but thats the great part of data is that itll be really easy to tell once it starts being populated haha. I look forward to seeing how it all plays out when it launches."*

(new question)

Just a personal concern, how many tournaments would one need to do to place high? Maybe Icarus could have a secondary use as a tool to find tournaments, to assure everyone has similar chances to enter brackets. I personally don't do more than like 2 online brackets a week and I don't see myself being able to do tournaments like every other day just cause of personal time reasons. This might just be more of a personal issue than a universal one but it's something to think about.

*"And I 100% understand that concern. Luckily, that is one of the really nice benefits of an elo system and the elo equation. Even if you don't enter that much, as long as you win, your elo should auto adjust pretty quickly to match your surrounding players if they are playing more for example. Also, since only certain tournaments will qualify based off attendance/elo there wont be a tournament every day or anything like that. It will only be 2-3 a week max is my prediction short of rare occasions. But again this is all theoretical right now and not really able to be tested until its actually live and well be happy to adjust everything once that happens."*

I see, that is reassuring to hear. A good feature to implement may be saying ahead of time, what tournaments count. But then there is an issue where, assuming that players elo influences what counts or not, you won't really know until the tournament starts cause people register so late lol. It sounded simple when I started typing but now idk how to make that clear lol.

*"Yea the late registration part is definitely the hard part in doing that 😅

A glass half full approach to it though that some TO's i talked to brought up is that people wont ever be stressed to enter a tournament bc of elo since it wont be known until afterward anyways."*

That's a nice way to look at it, but on the flip side, some of the more competitive players might want to know before hand if it will be "worth" the risk. But I don't think that level of information is possible just cause of late registration.

*"Yea for sure. I mean the plan is that as more top players start caring about it more register for online tournaments therefor increasing the number of tournaments counted. But thats really glass half full. At the end of the day there will always be at least TNS to rely on and most of the time people can tell what tournaments are going to be stacked even if there are the outliers that are fringe."*

Just off of the cuff, I think the three most "stacked" online brackets from most to least (relatively) are TNS, Jeekly, and Baccpack brawl. But this largely seems like a numbers issue that can't properly be tackled until you just have access to more data.

*"yea for sure its a numbers thing 100% that will just take tuning with time."*

(new question)

Imo the first few weeks should be test phase, then once you have (mostly) everything ironed out, you can (maybe???) do an elo reset and then let it run wild. That brings up another question actually, are you gonna consider elo resets at all?

*"The plan is that the only elo resets will be with major balance patches but the seasons will ideally by quite large."*

(end)

Thanks again to Vega for making this amazing website, and for answering all of my questions in depth! I am super excited to be able to grind this out!

And if you read all of this, thank you! Glad to know that people are equally invested in competitive Strive as I am lol.

New guilty gear survey is out, make your opinion heard!

x.com/GUILTYGEAR_PR/status/1834519387132268996?t=Y…

All I ask you vote for is replay takeover, network errors during matches, and personally I think adding either Robo Ky I, Robo Ky II, or Gabriel would be really cool.

And I'd reccomend you ask for slayer nerfs, if I were to list the reasons why this post would be too long. He's dominating at every level of play please pray on his downfall.
