Vincent Libosso, currently residing as a digital nomad in Diani Beach is your part time foodie, a keen events reporter and an expert at all things cool.
... The thing about Diani is that it lies to you ...
It shows you the beach first. The white sand. The blue water. The cocktails sweating under umbrellas. And you think, Ah. This is it.
You think Diani is only an ocean girl. But that’s because you haven’t followed the water inland.
One random day — not planned, not dressed for content — I asked, “Have you ever been to the falls?” They asked, “Which falls?” Then I said, “Just come.”
That’s how these things start. Poor instructions. Big rewards.
We drove past villages where children waved like they knew us. Past boda bodas carrying impossible loads. Past trees that looked like they had been standing there before we arrived on this earth.
And then we walked. Quietly. Because forests demand silence. Sheldrick Falls doesn’t announce itself. It makes you earn it. You walk. You sweat. You question your fitness. Then suddenly — water. Falling. Cold. Honest. The kind of water that makes you rethink all your life choices in three seconds.
Later, Adam whispered about Chitsanze Falls. Not whispered because it’s a secret — but because places like that prefer respect. SACRED.
It sits within HOLY community land. A 1Km hike. No urgency. Just water flowing next to real life — children, paths, stories, afternoons.
And then there’s that other one — the falls near Shimba Hills Boys High School, on the village side. No signboard. No Google reviews. Just a small fee to the guardians of the land family and water doing what water has always done, long before we started naming places.
These waterfalls are not influencers. They don’t pose. They don’t care if you post or not. They simply exist. And that’s the lesson. So if you come to Diani and only leave with beach photos, you didn’t really come to Diani.
Sometimes, the ocean rests. And when it does, the rivers are waiting inland.
— Save this. One day, you’ll need quiet more than views.
This is Diani, insider-style:
nature → nourishment → culture → community. No rush. No filters. Just presence.
... 🌙 Day 3️⃣ Malindi – Lamu 🇰🇪 210km 🚴🏾♂️ ... 🛞 19.10.25 🏝️ 0 Kms From Lamu — Journey’s End
The final stretch — long, remote, and untamed. From the coastal plains past Mambrui and through the open wild of the northern frontier, the road narrows into silence.
It’s the kind of ride where every pedal stroke feels like both a prayer and a promise. As the sun dips low, dhows appear on the horizon — sails catching the same wind that’s guided travelers here for centuries.
Lamu. A timeless island, a journey’s reward, and a reminder that every road, no matter how long, eventually leads home. 🌅🛶
