I'm trying to figure out what years to look at when finding a movie to watch, review, or just be fascinated with box office returns. So, if you can, help me out by telling me which is the best year.
Five Highest Grossing Films of that year:
1985: Back to the Future, Rambo Pt II, Rocky IV, The Color Purple, Out of Africa
1995: Die Hard with a Vengeance, Toy Story, Apollo 13, GoldenEye, Pocahontas
2005: HP Goblet of Fire, SW Revenge of the Sith, 'CoN Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe', War of the Worlds, King Kong
2015: SW Force Awakens, Furious 7, Jurassic World, Avengers Age of Ultron, Minions
Hi, I'm Tom, and today on Horribly Fantastic Films we'll be talking about...Waxwork. A movie. It has a few laughs, some lull dull moments, and some surprising practical effects. So, let's jump in and hopefully give you another movie to watch. https://youtu.be/aKsfZ7KInaw
Well, Stranger Things has finally dropped and it's over.....maybe. I mean, did they tell us what happen to the pregnant ladies, who I assume all died, or how did the scientist get a piece from the Upside Down during the Vecna origin story flashback? No....I think. And that's because Netflix just wants to turn this into a franchise by leaving behind plenty of sequel and prequel bait.
But that's for a different story, and a different poll. This poll is all about how you felt about this final season...which will or will not be continued with a spin off sequel or prequel.
So, the question: How did you like the final season of Stranger Things?
This is a second upload with a massive watermark across the screen, since Shout Factory! decided to copyright my last video a full 24 hours after the video came out.
So, if you watch this a second time; thank you, you're very kind. But if this is your first time; thank you for watching, and hopefully this won't effect you're viewing. https://youtu.be/j8QE3eIuFhg
So, I uploaded a new video. I haven't made a video, long form, in over a month I believe. I worked on it for days, and hours, especially when trying to get around MGM's copyright. (MGM is the worst, they don't like clips longer than five seconds) I worked day and night, and now that I have uploaded it and rewatched it, I really should have watched it when I fully awake....few grammatical errors, but I uploaded it at midnight and really, really don't want to work on it even longer. So, I hope you watch the video and enjoy it. I thought that even if I upload once a month I wanted to cover new and old movies, so I created a new playlist to go along with my previous playlist which will now focus more on newer movies. But the new playlist will focus on older films, or just: Horrible Fantastic Films
Well, Amazon finally did it. They finally greenlit a Stargate tv show. In fact, not only did they greenlight a Stargate tv show, but are going to continue the already established lore of SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe. It will be produced by Martin Gero, who began his career on Stargate SG-1 as a writer, and have consulting producers Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi. So, for once, Amazon did right by us, and gave us what we wanted, helmed by the men who created the original TV shows.
Now I'm not going to lie, there is a little dread. I dread that the show will be bad, worse than Universe, umm....some of that comes from apathy for the modern day and looking at the past with rose tinted glasses, while other worriment comes from Gero's previous work. Since Stargate Universe, Gero has worked on some pretty popular TV shows, like: Blindspot, for the whole run, and Dark Matter, for a season. But he was also a producer for four tv shows, in a row, that have a less than 5.5 on IMDB: Connecting (NBC), Kung Fu (CW), Keep Breathing (Netflix), and, the deeply hated, Quantum Leap revival (NBC). And Brad Wright hasn't produced or work on anything since Travelers (Netflix), way back in 2018. And Mallozzi hasn't done anything since Utopia (Hulu), but he did do all three seasons of Dark Matter, which I still believe was one of the best sci-fi shows to come out since Stargate SG-1.
So, I have dread, and I'm not afraid to say that. But....I feel more hopefully that this show will live up to most of my expectations (some things just can't be achieved, so make sure your bar is lower than it is now). I really would love to see a return of past cast members, like Teal'c, Rodney, Daniel, everyone really, but maybe not as the main characters. But knowing what Teal'c is doing now, with the Jaffa's now twenty year independence, and the destruction of old gods and with the destruction of the Ori, Atlantis being situated in San Francisco, and.....oh my god, just so much.
(Also, would love to see the Air Force be involved in the show again.)
But if you want to watch a video about the announcement, here's a link to Gateworld where they talk with Gero, Wright, and Mallozzi. https://youtu.be/OhYOOmkehIo?si=mUIgE...
If you wanna read about it though, here's a link to a MSN/Hollywood Reporter article. (Hollywood Reporter usually has ad unblocker popper, so, just read through MSN) www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/stargate-reopens-with-ne…
The only thing that could make this news better is if Paramount announced Kurtzman's firing......
So, apparently Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are going to return to do the Mummy 4. I remember doing a video on Fraser wanting to do this two years ago. I'm so glad that both of them are returning. The first two Mummy movies are great, except for CGI Rock, but....just ignore that. And even the first Scorpion King movie I have fond memories of....for that God Smack song.
Now, instead of doing The Mummy 4, let's just wash away The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, especially now that Weisz is returning, and focus on telling a continuation story of The Mummy 1 & 2. But what will it be about? www.ign.com/articles/brendan-fraser-and-rachel-wei…
Which technology ruined the flow of Stargate? These three devices influenced Stargate in a myriad of ways, and were either introduced to soon, overused, silly, or just broke the flow of progress.
1. Long-range Communication Stones Personally, I hate everything about this device. I hate how overplayed it was in SG Universe, and it's introduction in the Medieval Camelot Ori phase of Stargate. Now sometimes Stargate did interesting things, like having a human wind up within the body of an alien like in Universe. But the majority of the time it was a overplayed communication device that always brought people back to the dark grey black world of SG Command in the Pentagon. But I do love it's first introduction in Stargate SG-1 'Citizen Joe' when a average guy who got a rock at a yard sale begins seeing memories of Jack O'Neill who wrote his reports in the same room as the rocks twin. That was a great story, ruined by everything that followed.
2. Zat'nik'tel (Zat Guns) I don't hate zat guns like many of the actors and creators of the show do. Actors found the gun a little to phallic, especially when they would pull the trigger. And the creators thought that the gun was to a cop out, especially after introducing the three zats and the body is gone rule (which they rarely used, even when they really needed to use it a lot more often). Also, how often can you be shot by a Zat gun? What's the time gaps when you can be shot? Never answered. But I like zat guns for the most part, I just know some people who don't.
3. Naquadah Generator This is more of a personal issue that runs counter to what many of the other members of the fanbase feel. Naquadah though was introduced to soon. Well not the resource, but the generator. The Naquadah generator just allowed SG to bypass numerous issues that they confronted, without the slightest bit of a hiccup. And it was super great for mankind. Super green, produced tons of energy, and it's resource was "rare," but never in short supply. If it was introduced in season 6, 7, or 8 during the Baal/Anubis war period, it would have worked perfectly. But, just to soon, and I don't think it was ever introduced to Earth or used to power the Cheyenne Mountain Complex (which would have made Washington very happy).
Other mentions, but not ruin the show: Goa'uld flashbangs and teleportation devices: Teleport a flashbang down, then your soldiers. Or roll one through the gate before coming through. Just basic military maneuvers. You don't have to drop your guys in the middle of a military conflict, just to allow them to get lite up by a p90. But it was the Goa'uld, and they don't view anyone or anything with value....the Ori on the other hand, uhhh.
Staff Weapons: Another example of super advanced aliens with horrible fighting technology. This I feel like is a choice by the Goa'uld. They have their people live in huts, while flying around in space ships. It's not that they can't use more sophisticated technology, it's that they don't want to make their people too advance without the fear of rebellion creeping in....Or so I thought, until SG introduced Anubis and flipped that theory upside down. Apparently they just weren't making any progress out of fear of breaking the power structure.
Pyramid Ships: I know that the ships are based on a crack pot idea in the book: Chariot of the Gods. Where apparently aliens visited Earth and landed their ships on top of a Pyramid. Okay, that doesn't make any sense, since their solid rock. But my issue deals more with the lack of individuality of the space ships of the Goa'uld. Chinese Goa'uld has a flying pyramid, just like Aphosis. Kind of wanted something different, little variety. But..... Then again I'm glad he's not flying around in Space Pagoda.
If you have your own issues with a certain technology, share them below. And just remember I may dislike the technology, but I in no way dislike this show.
I am not very cinema literate. There are countless movies that I haven't seen that everyone, whose anyone, has seen. In order to be a good cinephile you should have seen x, y, and z. Well I haven't. I'm still watching the top 100 AFI films, then I need to go watch FFI or whatever the French call their thing, and all the others as well. But I have been watching really bad movies, a lot of bad movies, and a few good ones as well. And I decided that I wanted to end October by watching one well known Halloween movie that I have never seen.
So, it couldn't be Nightmare on Elm, Friday the 13th, Halloween, or Jack & Jill. So, I was in a conundrum, then I remembered a movie I have never seen, but at the same time have. At that was: The Exorcist.
A movie that has been referenced by everybody, sort of like Poltergeist or The Omen (which is not a good movie). So, I always thought I had seen it, but....I was shocked in myself that I hadn't.
Well I righted that wrong, and all I have to say......it's a work of cinema. That's the highest regard I can give a movie. There are millions, if not billions, of movies, and most of them are not cinema. They don't leave an impact or their...just bad. I didn't realize how good The Exorcist actually was until I watched it.
Unlike Home Alone, which 3 is the best and the first 2 you have to wait 2 hours for the 15 minutes you want to see, this movie gave you a great story, then shocked you with horror. But, another comparison, unlike The Omen, it didn't give you two hours of boredom and mediocre storytelling, it gave you a movie that was engaging and suspenseful. It kept me glued to my seat, with me watching every moment. And everyone should see this movie, especially if you have seen every movie made after it that has taken influence from it.
Now I will point out one issue that I had with the movie, but it wasn't bad as it was more shocking....and that's the finale. I wasn't prepared for the hero of the story to throw himself out the window. I was thinking that he was going to cast the demon out, maybe die, or celebrate....but, no, I wasn't prepared for that. Also, I guess the movie could have done a little better showing the priest losing his faith, since every movie with a priest now has that in it. But I find it interesting the impact that The Exorcist had on cinema, and how people have taken certain aspects from this movie and combined them with Evil Dead. I find that amazing.
Anyways, great movie. If you have seen it, see it again. If you haven't, you definitely should. And shame on everyone that I have been friends with, and my family, for never telling me about this marvel of a movie.

Have you seen Wolf? No. Neither have I. Never even heard of it. Jack Nicholson as a werewolf? Yes, please.
But did the movie turn out the way they wanted? I believe so. Did I think the movie turned out the way they wanted? Ehhhh.
Watch to find out.
