Social Security (SSI) recipients will receive 2 checks in December and one of the checks will show the increased amount due to the 2.8% cost of living increase. (COLA)

If a monthly payment falls on a weekend or a federal holiday which in this case is New Year’s Day, the Social Security Administration will issue them early.

So for January 2026, SSI recipients will see their payments come through on December 31, 2025, meaning they will receive two checks in the month of December.

This also means that in January there will be no SSI checks issued, so people who rely on that money should plan accordingly.

The 2nd check SSI recipients recieve on December 31st will be the larger of the two with the 2.8% COLA increase added to it.

To calculate exactly how much you will get in 2026, all you need to do is multiply your current monthly payment amount by 0.028.
