ForestBeehive apiary in Maine practices treatment-free (TF), natural beekeeping focused on bee health, resilience, and overwintering success.
Our honey bees are never treated with chemicals, acids, or oils. We host fewer than 10 varroa-resistant colonies so that bees can forage only naturally spring-to-fall without supplemental sugar feeding.
We use stationary deep horizontal Layens hives with their double-walls insulated with natural raw sheep wool, providing higher insulation R value than conventional hives and supporting brood development and winter survival.
Only surplus honey is harvested once per year, and colonies retain sufficient honey stores for winter.
We let our bees make their own comb and at times use natural, pesticide-free wax foundation instead of plastic, supporting healthier colonies.
This channel is for bee enthusiasts, natural and treatment-free beekeepers, and anyone interested in sustainable beekeeping, overwintering strategies, and real unadulterated honey.

Many of my horizontal stationary Layens beehives are set up like in a picture - ratchet-strapped to heavy sturdy (mostly) metal stands. When the box is filled with honey frames it becomes quite heavy too (up to 200 pounds).
While this ratchet-strapped setup is not 100% black bear-proof, it’s somewhat bear-resistant!
