"If you listen to the original recordings of rock stars like Sly Stone, Janis Joplin and Lou Reed, you'll hear that they started out doing their best to sound exactly like everyone else.
That's what the system seems to reward. That's what gets you the producer and a demo and apparently, a shot at stardom. Except it almost never words.
The big step between musician and rock star is the decision to sound like yourself instead of seeking to sound like everyone else."
- Author, Seth Godin
This quote is a powerful reminder to be yourself and to live an authentic life. This isn't easy to do, but it is the only way if you want to be free, content, fulfilled, and at peace. I'm really glad I came across this lesson in one of Seth Godin's book this morning. Again, it's a powerful reminder to stay the course with my projects, how I parent, the way I live, and show up in my relationships. I hope this lesson inspires courage in you today, too, wherever you feel you need it most. Xo, Nikki.

Earlier this month, I celebrated my 42nd birthday with my family at the beach, and this year felt especially special because it was like reliving childhood summers through my daughters eyes, only so much better!
2026 is the first year I've genuinely leaned into being a happy mom. Not just going through the motions trying to get through another day, but truly enjoying it, despite the tantrums and the constant interruptions of "mommy, mommy, mommy," and not being able to finish a full thought or an adult conversation with my husband. You know how frustrating that is! However, I’m loving every minute (at least most of the time :-)
It took me close to three years to fully own my new life, with its responsibilities and sacrifices, higher values and priorities, ending friendships that no longer fit, and breaking old habits that drained me and kept me stuck.
These last nine months have been the best I've ever felt physically and mentally since having my daughter nearly four years ago. And I bet it has a lot to do with giving up drinking, getting better quality sleep, investing in a personal trainer for my workouts and nutrition plans, making new girlfriends who challenge me and share similar hobbies, and finally allowing myself to truly RECEIVE all the love and support from my amazing partner without feeling guilty or envious of his success.
I say this because feeling forced to 'hormonally' downshift my ambition and career a a little over the past couple of years has been hard. There can be so much pride and identity tied to who you used to be, the version of you with unlimited energy, all the free time in the world, and the 'I've got this, I don't need anyone' mentality. Saying 'ciao' to that isn't easy. You know what I mean if you're a later-in-life mom.
What I keep coming back to though is that I want to be the mother to my daughter (and to myself) I never had, and I know that’ll require even more inner healing work, an evolving identity, staying on top of my health and fitness, leaning more into my femininity, and breaking generational patterns. This is hard, intentional work, and it's also absolutely transformational.
I hope this post helped you today in some way, even if it’s just the feeling of being seen and understood in this very moment. 💛
If you're ready for more support and guidance in this new chapter of life, whether it's becoming a new mom yourself, a recent breakup, job loss, health scare, or your in that season of life where you feel stuck or unsure of next steps to take, I'd love to connect. Inside this video, I’m sharing the 5 rituals that are easy to stick with, gentle on your nervous system, and powerful enough to shift your entire day… even on the mornings when you wake up tired, overwhelmed, or in a panic.
If you’re ready to stop starting your mornings in chaos and finally give yourself what you need, this is your new go-to routine, my love.
✨ If you’re ready for deeper support, healing, and personalized guidance, I'd love to help. Visit my website to learn more: www.nikkimcmillan.com/

If you’ve ever felt like your life is running you instead of the other way around… this video is for you.
These are the 5 non-negotiable habits that keep me feeling in control in my life. And honestly? They’re the reason I’m able to show up as the mom, woman, coach, and creator I’m proud of.
In this video, I’m sharing the simple daily choices that keep me aligned:
👉Daily movement (even when I don’t want to)
👉Staying alcohol-free
👉Protecting my schedule like my peace depends on it
👉Eating without screens or distraction
👉Trying a new hobby or experience every month
These habits changed how I feel in my body, how I trust myself, and how I lead my life.
My hope is that they inspire you to create your own list of non-negotiables that support the strongest version of you.

Lately, I’ve been learning that happiness doesn’t come from doing more — it comes from slowing down, saying no, and actually being present with the people and hobbies that matter. In this video, I’m sharing my personal experience how doing & having less has brought me more regulation, clarity, and follow-through on my goals. If you’ve been feeling scattered and out of alignment in life, you'll find this video supportive and validating.

Ever feel like life is just… too much? I hit a point over the summer where I realized some habits, people, and beliefs were stealing my happiness. That's what this video is about, I thought it be helpful to share the 3 things I quit over the last 45 days that have completely changed the way I feel about myself, how I show up for my kid, and walk through life with more self-respect and fierce boundaries. If you too have been struggling with unhealthy influences and habits, this video is for you! :)

I've had a big mindset shift recently over the last few weeks by swapping out some old habits that weren't doing me any favors for new ones that actually help me respect myself more. It's been surprising how these changes have affected my life. One of the new habits I’ve picked up is reading almost every night and morning, which means I get to kick off and end my day with some good mental and emotional fuel. In this video, I’m sharing three books I’ve read in the last two weeks that have really empowered me in unexpected ways. I hope you find some inspiration and encouragement in what I’m sharing today! 💛
