I’m really sorry, but I unfortunately need to push back today’s Heartbreak video to tomorrow at 9am PT / 12pm ET.

After getting back from my trip last night, I got hit by something and ended up sick most of the night. The absolute worst timing 🤦‍♂️

The video is very close, but I want to finish the last pieces properly instead of rushing it out while not feeling my best.

We’re digging into why certain fictional losses stay with us long after the story ends. The goodbye we weren’t ready for. The ending that still hurts.

But more importantly, we’re talking about how writers actually earn that feeling, so the heartbreak lands because the audience truly cared first.

We’ll look at some devastating examples, break down the "Heartbreak Promise", and talk about how to build emotional weight into your own stories without forcing it.

I’m out of town for a few days with family, soaking up some nature, and getting inspired for what's ahead!

Here’s the latest on the hard drive fiasco 🙃

I really thought I could still get the side characters video filmed and finished for this weekend, but the hard drive is officially kaput. A new one is on the way, but unfortunately that means I have to push the video to next Saturday.

I’ll still be dropping some YouTube Shorts this week, and as a thank you for being patient with all of this, I’m going to do another live Q&A. We’ll be scheduling that for Sunday, June 28th, and I’ll share more details soon.

I was already pretty deep into the edit for the side character video, but I had a hard drive issue and basically need to refilm and rebuild the whole thing.

But I will not let this video go quietly into the night!!

We are continuing When Characters Collide with a topic I know A LOT of you have been asking about:

👉 What are we supposed to do with side characters?

Because main characters are already hard enough, but side characters are a whole different beast.

So this one is all about how to figure out what a side character actually needs, how much attention to give them, when they belong in a scene, and why some of them end up mattering way more than we expected.

It’s a big question, but I think we found a really fun way into it.
