⛱️Every year we make a holiday video to share something special from the collection. This year our film team preserved several charming home movies from the Goldsmith family, dating from the late 1920s to the 1940s.
It was a privilege to digitally preserve and watch these films in 2025, and with the family’s permission we decided to use some of their vintage summer holiday footage to make our holiday video.

#onthisday
July 10 marks the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior. A team of French secret service agents detonated two limpet bombs while the ship was in Auckland Harbour, killing crew member Fernando Pereira and irreparably damaging the Rainbow Warrior.
Ngā Taonga holds many radio and television records related to the bombing and its aftermath, including this award-winning news package by 1ZB.

Happy Anniversary day Otago ! 🥳
A few years ago, Ngā Taonga paid a visit to the great city of Dunedin Ōtepoti to match historic footage with modern day locations. The three-part video series proved very popular, so we've plucked out a few scenes of iconic locations from those videos to celebrate today.
We hope you enjoy these short clips. If you wish to check out more Dunedin scenes, you can watch the full three-part series on either our Facebook playlist or over on our YouTube channel ➡️ bit.ly/4bXgmTJ

🔥 Hot from the scanners, a comparison look at the amazing preservation work done to the 1930s film 'The Maritime City'. This New Zealand government funded film explored all over the capital city (Wellington) and we can now all enjoy these historic scenes in much greater detail than before.
This recently upload is now the latest to join our rescan playlist, for more videos like this visit our channel or follow us on our other social platforms for more New Zealand archival content.
Looking for more Wellington archival film content? we recently posted a blog celebrating Wellingtons anniversary which we encourage you to check out.

Ngā Taonga wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
For this year’s holiday compilation, we delved into our collection of personal records, also known as home movies, in search of vintage summer road trips.
