Delayed, Defeated, but Delivered: A Travel Adventure I Wouldn’t Wish on Anyone

I don’t like to give bad reviews. If I don’t like something, I usually just stay quiet.
But in the spirit of adventure and keeping it real… let me tell you about the disaster I currently find myself enthralled in.

My return flight from Lansing to Chicago? Smooth as butter. Such a cute little flight.
But Chicago to Denver? 😩 Buckle up.

Let me preface this by saying: I’m tired, I’m grumpy, and this may not be as bad as it feels—but it feels pretty bad.

So, the flight kept getting delayed… every two hours, for two more hours, until finally—at 1:00 a.m.—they let us board. We were all on, doors shut, ready to go… and then they hit us with:
“Actually… nope. We’re not going anywhere. Get off the plane.”

Cool.

They handed us garbage vouchers for a garbage motel. And because they waited until after 1:00 a.m. to cancel the flight, all the shuttles had already stopped running (they stop at 1:00… go figure).
So I ended up paying a ridiculous amount for a 10-minute Uber ride—only to find out this morning that the paid voucher actually did show up. 🤦‍♀️ I didn’t even notice until I tried to use my $12 food voucher this morning … which, by the way, gets you absolutely nothing in an airport. —thankfully, the driver was pleasant.

When I got to the motel, no one was at the desk. I literally watched the few hours of sleep I might have gotten just slowly disappear.
Eventually someone showed up, I got checked in, and made it to my room—which, let’s just say, wasn’t the worst I’ve ever stayed in. (Remind me to tell you about the time Anderson let me pick our hotel right before our Brazil trip. I was trying to be thrifty. I have since learned better.)

Anyway—bed was clean. I’ll take it.

I took a quick shower, set my alarm, and gave myself a solid 3-hour window to catch the motel’s shuttle.
Woke up. Got myself together. Dragged my exhausted self downstairs.
No coffee.
WHAT!

But I’m hanging on. I’m determined. I’m downstairs at 7 a.m. to catch the shuttle that’s supposed to take me back to the airport.
7:00… 7:05… 7:10… 7:15…
Finally, at 7:32, a guy strolls out of the motel (I think the staff lives there? Maybe it’s a small family-run thing?).

Meanwhile, I’m sick to my stomach that I actually trusted this joke of a motel to get me anywhere on time.

Luckily—or unluckily—my flight’s delayed. Again.
So… adventure, right?
