The justice landscape is changing in England & Wales, but also across the globe, with continents such as Asia, Africa & the Caribbean all embracing ADR as the solution to their Backlogs. Yet few embrace technology as a way of enabling ADR to support the mass resolution of Backlogs. Does a tech/ADR combo solution alone solve anything?
How can we ensure the systems today do not ossify civil justice (CJ) in 100 yrs time?
What can a philosopher benefiting from taxidermy but nevertheless dead for almost 200 years tell? We free Jeremy Bentham from his box & meet a CJ reformer gagging to go again!

đđHonoured to Engage with Leading Voices in Arbitration: The Day My Footnotes Spoke Back
By Dr Chinwe Egbunike-Umegbolu.
It was surreal yesterday sitting alongside Associate Professor of Law, Dr Masood Ahmed, and Mr Andrew Tweeddale two scholars whose work has shaped my academic thinking for over a decade.
Twelve (12) years ago, as an international student navigating unfamiliar academic terrain, their writings were not merely sources; they were guides, anchors, and, at times, intellectual companions in moments of doubt.
I engaged with them diligently; reading, citing -OSCOLA đĽ˛đcarefully, and, to be honest, wrestling with their arguments late into the night, armed with little more than determination, highlighters, and faith.
That journey continued through my PhD and into my postdoctoral research, where Mr Andrew Tweeddaleâs textbook, co-authored with Keren Tweeddale (1st edition), the leading arbitration textbook- âArbitration of Commercial Disputes: International and English Law and Practice,â became part of the very architecture of my scholarly thinking.
So, to now sit with them (thank you, podcast!) and engage directly with them (the 2nd edition of the work (co-authored with Prof Masood) that influenced my journey.
Reflecting on it, it was a full-circle moment that was both grounding and quietly transcendent.
The highlight? The stories.
Grateful to my co-host (ADR Across the Globe Podcast) Tony Guise for steering us there uncovering the human narrative behind the first and second editions: the collaboration, the persistence, the evolution. A powerful reminder that even the most authoritative texts begin with ideas, drafts, and a measure of uncertainty.
There was a moment I pinched myself, Chinwe, Twelve years ago, you were citing them and today, you are speaking with them. That, to me, is the magic of academia.
Iâm especially excited to share this episode; not just for its intellectual depth, but for the humanity behind it. And yes, I couldnât help but wish Keren Tweeddale was there too but I trust Mr Andrew will pass on my gratitude.
Looking forward to sharing it with you all.

đArbitration of Commercial Disputes: England and International Law and Practice with Dr Masood Ahmed and Andrew Tweeddale.
Looking forward to the podcast session with Andrew Tweeddale and Dr Masood Ahmed on âADR Across the Globe.â Andrew Tweeddale is a lawyer and an accomplished writer of both fiction and non-fiction.

Dr Ahmed read law at the University of Cambridge (Sidney Sussex College) and completed his postgraduate diploma in legal practice at Cardiff University. He qualified as a solicitor at a leading international commercial law firm and practised commercial dispute resolution (litigation, arbitration and mediation) as well as undertaking commercial transactional work.

His research has been published in various international academic journals, including the Common Law World Review, Civil Justice Quarterly, Kingâs Law Journal, Lloydâs Maritime & Commercial Law Quarterly, Modern Law Review, Public Law, International Journal of Arbitration and the International Journal of Procedural Law.
Sending love, light, peace, hope and faith,

đFeedback from Mr. Paul Sandford, a retired Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Provider, regarding the new series âDigitisation of the Courts in England and Wales,â with Co-hosts Dr. Chinwe and Mr. Tony Guise on the âADR Across the Globeâ Podcast.
He stated âNot content with writing excellent daily posts and articles that not only help set the agenda for civil justice reform in England and Wales but also keep everyone to date, in collaborating with Dr Chinwe Egbunike-Umegbolu, AFHEA, Tony Guise is now providing very easily accessible and indeed very watchable and listenable material. This particular episode focuses on âDigitalisation of the Courts in England and Walesâ. In actual fact, simply to use the phrases âeasily accessibleâ and âvery watchableâ is insufficient. This really is excellent content, not so much accessible and watchable as essential viewing, all from the comfort of your own home. Oh yes and not just for people in the UK.

ADR Across the Globe Podcast with Dr Chinwe &Tony
đđI spent part of Sunday evening with Dr Chinwe Egbunike-Umegbolu, AFHEA recording the latest episode in our co-hosted podcast series ADR Across the Globe.
Our guest was Achere Cole FCIArb, UK, Director of the Lagos Multi-Door Court House (LMDC) exploring her Route to the Role, likes/hates and all #ADR things in between!
We had fun discussing the challenges and rewards of deploying ADR in a civil (and criminal!) jurisdiction. But more of that later.
We recorded the episode to celebrate this weekâs 2nd Annual Multi Door Courthouses & ADR Stakeholders Summit which takes place on 15 and 16 October 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria, in person and online. Link to sign up in comments.
I am privileged to be a speaker at the conference; on an afternoon panel this Wednesday 15 October. I am looking forward to the conversations with excitement.
I will post more detail as we draw nearer but sign up, engage, learn about the how of ADR deployment - just as important as the why.
I hope to see Regular Readers at the event and make new friends too.
