something that changed the way
I think about fluency.

It was not a grammar rule.
It was not a vocabulary list.

It was three words.

Well — you know —
it is kind of hard to explain.

I was listening to a fluent
English speaker mid conversation.
They stopped. Looked up.
And said those three words.

And then continued.

Naturally.
Without awkwardness.
Without apology.

And I realised —

That is the difference between
someone who sounds fluent —
and someone who sounds like
they are still learning.

Not vocabulary.
Not grammar.
Not accent.

Filler words.

Well. You know. Actually.
I mean. Kind of. To be honest.
Let me think. All in all.

These are not mistakes.
These are not weaknesses.

it blooms.

how beautiful.

And I think about that tree
