In the year A.D. 749, the Annals of Ulster record that "Ships (naues) with their crews were seen in the air above Clonmacnoise. Today I'll be walking this magical landscape that sits gently at the bend of the Shannon River and le beannacht dé (with God's blessing) watch luí na griéne (sunset) and the Winter constellations such as An Bodach - Orion (The hunter) and An Mathghamhain Mór - Ursa Major (The great Bear) Illuminate the heavens.
Had a Fantastic morning visiting some of Tipperary's Ancient church yards at Monsea and Knigh. Thanks to Lough Derg Ebikes, John Flannery and Danny Grace from the Ormonde Historical society who offered valuable and special insights into the local area.
Here is a closer look at the Carving I discovered on a 12th Century Tipperary Abbey. It has been reported today to the National Monuments Service and Archaeologist Camin O'Brien. Could we be looking at an Irish Hare with Lion or Gryffin feet, what is the symbolic significance and what further mysteries may this discovery lead us to?
On Sunday the 3rd of August, In a place I'd walked many times, I discovered an Incredible unreported mythical looking animal carving, possibly of a wolf or fox with what seems to have 3 legs and crow like feet. This particular section of wall had long been hidden by a mature Elder Tree that was recently cut down revealing its secrets. This site known as Tyone Abbey is only 3.5km away from the Ballinaclogh Sìle Na Gig which was only discovered under Ivy in 1989 proving the vast richness of antiquities and symbolism still to be uncovered. I also discovered floral-like interlacing patterns hiding under Ivy growth on the double arch window, a feature that had also not been reported. I will document a video of the findings on one of the upcoming Ramblings of a Northerner videos.
Thanks to National Heritage Week in Ireland and Lough Derg E Bike Tours, I will be going on a guided specialist tour tomorrow visiting some of North Tipperary's finest mediaeval Castles and Churches. The route follows the 12th century Kilbarron Abbey, 16th century Annagh Castle, Knigh Cross Castle Tower, Dromineer 10th century Church and 13th century Castle and Nenagh 13th Century Round Castle. I plan to video the day and document some of the more interesting, mysterious and unseen aspects of the adventure as quite often these special sites are shared with layers of history, from Pre Christian Standing Stones, to Neolithic, early Bronze age Dolmens and Earthworks.

My current thoughts on the YouTube journey are; If I'm not making things that I love then I'm just creating content. Two very different things. Creating content feels forced, heavy and laboured. Making things I love feels free flowing, energy giving and labourless. Having experienced both, the wisdom I would remind myself and other soul filled videographers or storytellers is, forget the numbers, forget the algorithim, find your all god rhythm, do what YOU love and the rest will take care of itself.

A precious photo of the actual Elder Tree that covered over the mysterious animal carving that I recently discovered on the back of Tyone Abbey.
You can watch the full video ' My FIRST Archaeological Discovey' on the channel page.
