“We take walking for granted — until it’s taken away.”
I’m 64 now. I spent most of my life teaching Math — numbers, logic, equations. Everything had an answer. But life, as I’ve come to understand, isn’t always that simple. After retiring, I looked forward to quiet mornings, temple visits, and watching my grandchildren grow.
One such trip took us to the sacred Temple. It was meant to be a peaceful journey, one of prayer and reflection. But sometimes, even the most sacred paths have unexpected turns. I returned home with a sharp pain in my leg. I thought it would pass, but it didn’t. The pain only worsened, and walking became difficult.
After a series of tests, I was diagnosed with a complete tear of the left tendoachilles along with Haglund’s tubercle — a painful bony enlargement at the back of the heel. The solution: Arthroscopic Assisted Tendoachilles (TA) Repair with FHL Transfer and Haglund’s Tubercle Excision. It sounded complex, and frankly, I was nervous. Would I walk again without pain? Would I be able to return to my normal life?
But what happened next changed everything. I met a team here that didn’t just treat the injury — they cared for me like one of their own. From the first consultation to post-surgical care, I was never just a patient. They listened. They encouraged me. They brought calm when fear crept in. Whether it was a timely cup of tea, a gentle reassurance, or a helping hand when I struggled to move — they were there.
Today, I walk with much more ease. The pain that once shadowed my days has faded. And more than that, I carry with me a deep sense of gratitude. Not just for the healing of my leg, but for the healing of my spirit.
I may not remember every face or name. But I’ll never forget how they made me feel — safe, seen, and supported. Like family.
— Mr. Biksham Pajjuri
