Yes! The day has finally come! I present to you Roll Tape: Live From Melody League Studios AND a new video of the live performance of "A Place Called Earth" Featuring none other than @LaurenDaigle at the Ryman in Nashville!
The Melodies & Memories livestream is TOMORROW! I think we've mostly got the setlist picked out and this is shaping up to be a pretty fun dive into the songs that made me who I am today. There will be some solo tunes, some Switchfoot tunes... Maybe even a bit of Radiohead... (as always, the setlist is as flexible as an Olympic gymnast so really who's to say where we'll end up, ha!)
Putting this retrospective show together has been an interesting process thus far. Digging into the full spectrum of emotions and memories of both joy and pain.

Departures feels like the articulation of thoughts and feelings that might never have come out without the help of the song. It’s an incredible experience to see these feelings of pain, confusion, joy, and love become a song. And then beyond that, to see these songs become your songs. Your anthems and soundtracks. Knowing that there is a connection of souls through the songs has been a huge consolation this year. That these songs are not my own anymore: they're ours, they’re yours.
It got me thinking, what if I could put together an evening of songs as an attempt attempt to communicate my life? Like a mixtape that borrows from the past 20 years. Stories and songs. Melodies and Memories.
So on Friday, April 9th, my friends and I will be doing just that playing the songs that made me who I am today, talking story, and live streaming it for everyone around the world. Songs I’ve written and the songs I wish I wrote.
In celebration of the release of Departures, I'll be going live on right here YouTube tomorrow night at 5PM PST for an exclusive Melody League Session. Longtime friend and San Diego radio legend, Hilary Doneux (of 91X) and I will be discussing all things Departures and then Keith, Aaron and I will play some tunes.
My friends Aaron Redfield and Keith Tutt were a HUGE part of this album. So it's fitting to bring you the first live performances of "Education", "Red And Gold" & "Jesus, I Have My Doubts" alongside of Aaron and Keith.
I wish that we were playing these tunes for you in person (me more than anyone!). But until then, playing these songs live with Aaron and Keith in the studio will have to tide us over!
