Two amateurs who try to breed nice horses, produce them up the levels for eventing and have fun on the way. We are always horse first and sport second. Every day we are students of the horse.
It's been a typical horse week - you make a grand plan keep your fingers crossed and immediately a wheel falls off!
Poor Insey has given herself a horrible wound under her elbow on front leg and it's quite deep so not sure how long she will be off work as she is very sore. We are pretty sure the bursar hasn't been impacted so hoping she will heal without complications. It will put our plans back a bit as she has missed quite a lot of work lately with weather, injury and rider illness. It's just horses and this is why you make a lot of different plans.
We are in the process of putting a vlog together about the NQR horse. Which is our abbreviation for not quite right. We see a lot of horses on social media who are showing signs but there has only been a minor change in performance or they are doing a job they cope with well, so it's not picked up or it's certainly not discussed. As with everything horse related, experience is one of those things you gain after you needed it and we have a lot of videos of our own NQR horses over 20 years where thanks to the work of Sue Dyson and subsequent bigger problems that emerged, we now know better. We both try and pick things up from a whisper rather than having the horse shout.
It's never easy with a non verbal sentient being to try and work out if there is a problem so hoping you guys can learn from our many mistakes.
Finally, if there is anything you would like a vlog on or if you have any questions please stick them below. Always happy to try and answer things and can stick it in a vlog. Even happy to answer questions like have we fallen out or do we get jealous?
Today's vlog is not something we tend to do as try and be understated and hope for the best as horses do love to throw 🔧 into plans and plus I think you look back and have had a really good year with a tonne of progress but then feel a little disappointed. Success shouldn't be measured by rosettes but on the journey you have travelled and what you have learnt along the way. Sometimes just holding your head up above water is a huge win if life isn't being very kind to you. This vlog is a big challenge and it's been on my bucket list pretty much since I came back to horses after uni. It's never quite happened but a journey of 1000 miles begins with 1 step so let's give it a go and see what happens! 🤞🍀
Happy New year - just want to thank those who watch, comment and subscribe to our niche little channel. 2026 is the year to chase some bucket list goals from doing a walk and trot test on our just turned 4yos, including the mule. Have both Insey and Nova happy and most importantly to have fun and enjoy it all. Whatever comes along, and there will always be highs and lows, try to do it with a sense humour. Hope you are happy and successful in your own lives and that the year of the horse is kind to you.
This is a bit of a weird post! Would you expect anything else?
We have a few horse legs in a freezer..... would you be interested in us showing a few things about them. One of the ones I thought might interest people is in leg cooling. You can see why some things work (ice) and others won't (clay, gels and evaporation).
The intention is to learn but for some people it could understandably be upsetting. Let us know your thoughts.
1 week today we head off to Pau 5* which we are very excited about. French food and eventing.... what's not to love? Plus catching up with some mates who live there.
With Pau being the last 5* of the year we will run a special eventing league comp and get some prizes which will hopefully be Pau merch.
If you are non-European based we will get you a voucher for an online tackshop so you are not excluded with postage and tariffs being a bit tricky at moment.
Prizes for top 3 in the league.
They won't be huge fancy prizes but a bit of a reward for fun.
If you fancy joining in then make sure you join our league and choose a team on eventing manager.
Our league code is INQH
Photo a hark back to our last European eventing adventure in Paris.
Are you an eventing geek like us? Enjoy a bit of a game? Equiratings runs Eventing manager which is a free online game where you choose 5 horses who are running at Burghley and you have £10 million to spend. Winner is the one with the most points. If you fancy playing manager.equiratings.com/
Come and join our league with code INQH We might even be able to sort out a small prize for the winner.
Double whammy this weekend at Portman. It's not often we both compete at the same event and because the horses are not allowed to see each other, yelling across a lorry park at each other doesn't quite cut it. Busy week with Eris heading off to Hartpury on Thursday for British Breeding Futurity and Insey off to Dauntsey on Saturday. Jancis is off on Sunday to do dressage 😳, it is a monumental first.... the shizzle has got real. Competitive Jancis has emerged 😱.
If you are at a loose end on Tuesday 6th May and fancy a walk around Badminton Grassroots course with someone who knows their shizzle and a free goody bag then ping coach Jo May eventing a message on insta. A great chance to learn and get a professional view. @Hiltonherbs1
This weekend is a wrap! Two busy days of eventing and two very different days. Pouring rain for Jancis at Chard 100 and decent weather at Calmsden Novice for Lucy. The first vlog should be live on Monday from this weekend.
