Behind the Scenes: The Story of the Niko Family 🧵🔨
Hi everyone! Today, I want to pull back the curtain and share the story behind WorkshopNiko and this channel.
We are a husband-and-wife team, Oleh and Yevheniia. What's a truly amazing coincidence is that our family name is Nikolaiev, and we come from the beautiful city of Mykolaiv, Ukraine. It feels like this craft was written in our destiny!
Our journey started back in 2021 when I crafted my very first item using a scrap of leather from an old, worn-out bag. That single spark completely captured my heart, and soon we both dove headfirst into this craft. Today, it’s not just a "job" for us — it is a lifestyle that consumes 90% of our time.
Who creates the magic?
✨ Yevheniia is our designer and the master behind our precise digital patterns.
✨ Oleh is the craftsman who brings those designs to life, spending hours at the workbench.
Our Standards & Craftsmanship:
We strictly adhere to the philosophy: "Quality is when the customer returns, not the product." For us, this means absolute minimalism, compactness, and impeccable functionality. We do not use sewing machines, lasers, or automated equipment. Everything you see is 100% handcrafted.
Every single item is manually saddle-stitched (mostly using premium Galaces threads) and finished with ultimate respect for the leather’s natural surface. Because of this uncompromising manual process, our crafting times vary: a minimalist wallet might take just 1 day, while a complex, bespoke travel bag can take up to 2 weeks of intense, dedicated handwork.
We live and breathe this craft 7 days a week, constantly perfecting our skills and sharing our processes here on YouTube. We truly believe that by showing the raw, beautiful reality of traditional leatherworking, we help keep this ancient art alive and relevant in the modern world.
