As an Afghan, I want to state clearly and unequivocally that my community strongly condemns this horrific act. What happened in Washington D.C. does not represent Afghans, Afghan refugees, or the countless individuals who came to the United States seeking safety and a better future.
My people are busy trying to survive — working hard, rebuilding their lives, and supporting their families. Afghan immigrants and refugees have endured decades of conflict, and most of us are focused solely on creating stability, contributing positively, and giving our families a chance to thrive.
This violent incident cannot and should not define an entire community. One individual’s actions do not erase the honesty, dignity, and dedication of millions of hardworking Afghans.
We stand firmly with the victims, we condemn this attack with full force, and we reaffirm that the Afghan community values peace, responsibility, and justice.

This week, together with my family and our Afghan community in Chicago, we proudly celebrated the 106th Anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence.
It was a meaningful gathering where families, children, and community leaders came together under the Afghan flag to honor our history, culture, and the sacrifices made for freedom. What inspired me most was seeing the younger generation—our children—participating in the celebration, carrying the values of unity, resilience, and hope.
Although we live far from our homeland, the love for Afghanistan remains alive in our hearts. Every such gathering reminds us that independence is not only a historic milestone but also a responsibility to keep the spirit of freedom alive for future generations.
Wherever Afghans come together, Afghanistan’s pride, culture, and resilience shine through.

امان الله خان د افغانستان پاچا و، خو یوازې پاچا نه، بلکې د خپل وطن د آزادۍ او د خپل ولس د ویاړ نښه هم و. هغه وخت چې زموږ وطن د انګرېزانو تر ولکې و، دا ځوان پاچا د خپلې خاورې د ساتلو لپاره په ډېر مېړانه ودرید.
هغه انګرېزانو ته وویل:
"افغانستان خپلواک دی، موږ به هېڅکله د بل چا غلامي و نه منو!"
انګرېزانو فکر کاوه چې افغانان به تسلیم شي، خو نه! زموږ د مېړني ولس ځوانانو، سپین ږیرو او حتی ښځو د وطن د دفاع لپاره ټوپکونه په اوږه کړل. د دې جګړې مشري زړور پاچا، امان الله خان، کوله.
په ۱۹۱۹ کال کې، د درېیمې افغان ـ انګرېز جګړې په نتیجه کې، افغانستان خپلواکي وګټله. له هغې ورځې وروسته، نړۍ په رسمي توګه ومنله چې افغانستان یو ازاد او خپلواک هېواد دی.
امان الله خان یوازې د جګړې سړی نه و، هغه غوښتل چې افغانستان د علم، ښوونې او پرمختګ په لور هم ولاړ شي. هغه د ښوونځیو، سړکونو، روغتونونو او نوې فکرونو د راوستلو هڅه وکړه. هغه ویل:
"ملت یوازې د ټوپک په زور نه لویږي، بلکې د قلم، ښوونې او پوهې په زور هم وده کوي."
زما زویه! زما لورې!
تاسو باید تل په یاد ولرئ چې دا وطن افغانستان زموږ د نیکونو په وینو آزاد شوی دی.
نو کله چې دا انځور وینئ، یوازې د یو پاچا تصویر مه ګڼئ، بلکې د خپلواکۍ، مېړانې او ویاړ نښه یې وګڼئ.

If you want to know the true cost of war, ask someone like me—someone who lived it.
My entire country collapsed before my eyes.
