I have always loved Audiobooks and radio plays, but never understood why they were never fully combined. The BBC does wonderful radio plays with sound effects and music, but they're always dramatisations adapted for radio, whereas unabridged audiobooks never have the sound effect and music which I feel set the mood so well, so I decided to make the audiobooks I wanted to hear.
Fully dramatised, professionally performed unabridged audiobooks with sound effects and music.

Our sixth BANNED BOOK WEEK book: H.G. Wells's books were banned by the Nazis in 1933 because of his socialist views and opposition to Nazi ideology, which deemed them "un-German". His non-fiction works, such as The Outline of History, were specifically targeted for their criticism of Nazism and support for social justice, leading to their public burning alongside other works considered undesirable by the Nazi regime.
Authoritarian governments will always try to censor the media in all its varied forms in order to reshape their perceived image. We have seen this over thousands of years of human history, and are seeing it to this very day.
This is why censorship of art is always a societal negative, and must be met with fierce opposition.
Give them an inch and they'll take your freedom.

Our fifth BANNED BOOK WEEK book: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been banned or challenged at various times for multiple reasons, including accusations of promoting drug use (due to the caterpillar's hookah), sexual themes, and obscenities, and for featuring talking animals, which was deemed harmful to societal hierarchies in China. Other objections have been raised regarding its surrealism and criticism of authority.

Our fourth BANNED BOOK WEEK book: Frankenstein has been banned or challenged for various reasons, including its perceived "anti-religious" themes and exploration of creation, the controversial subject matter of violence and the monster's deformity, and for encouraging unconventional thinking about science and societal norms. A notable instance was its ban in South Africa during Apartheid in 1955 for being "objectionable and obscene" by the government that relied on racial separation.

Our third BANNED BOOK WEEK book: Animal Farm was banned primarily because of its direct allegorical critique of communism and totalitarian regimes, particularly the Soviet Union, leading to its prohibition in countries like the USSR and Cuba. However, it also faced bans for other, less common reasons, such as temporary censorship in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to its depiction of talking pigs being against Islamic values.
China also banned the English version of the book for being critical of its communist system, though the Chinese translation was censored instead.

Our second BANNED BOOK WEEK book: Brave New World has been banned for a variety of reasons, including its exploration of sensitive themes such as promiscuity, drug use, and atheism, which many deemed unsuitable for younger readers and contrary to religious and familial values. The novel was also challenged for its portrayals of sexuality and its perceived anti-religious content, leading to its removal from schools and libraries across the globe since its publication in 1932

Our first BANNED BOOK WEEK book: 1984 has been banned due to its satirical nature towards politics and leaders of government. It can be deemed as almost predictive and philosophical, making many schools wary of allowing it in libraries. Along with the political nature of the book being frowned upon, 1984 has also been banned for some of the sexual nature of the relationship between Julia and Winston. Many schools find the scenes to be too risque for allowing in schools. 1984 depicts the censorship of literature and film found in Oceania, and how it has created a downfall of the book’s society, which is what makes it so ironic that 1984 is being censored.
Also ironically, it was banned in the USSR for being anti-Communist, and banned in USA for being pro-communist, showing clearly how it's anti-authoritarian message can be feared by authoritarian leaders on all sides.

All this week SPA will be supporting BANNED BOOK WEEK, with posts of audiobooks we have produced which have been banned or censored over the years.
The Banned Books Week Coalition is an international alliance of diverse organizations joined by a commitment to increase awareness of the annual celebration of the freedom to read. The Coalition seeks to engage various communities and inspire participation in Banned Books Week through education, advocacy, and the creation of programming about the problem of book censorship.
The American Library Association and Banned Books Week Coalition are pleased to announce the theme for Banned Books Week 2025: “Censorship Is So 1984. Read for Your Rights.” Banned Books Week will take place October 5 – 11, 2025.
Current efforts to ban books and information held in schools, libraries, archives, and bookstores are a truth close to fiction – namely, the depiction of extreme censorship by an oppressive regime in George Orwell’s cautionary and prescient tale 1984. The Banned Books Week 2025 theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.
“Banned Books Week prompts us all to stand up and defend our First Amendment right to read freely,” said Barbara Stripling, Banned Books Week Coalition chair. “Censorship is never the path to truth. All of our lives are enriched when our libraries and schools provide the books that allow us to see ourselves, understand others, and discover the world.”

LOOK! Proof that I sometimes work with actual real life humans!
It's the last night of Lords and Ladies on stage this evening, and I have to say it's been a real pleasure. Seven years away from the stage was WAY too long, and these folks have been absolutely lovely. I'll miss performing with them all, and seeing all the cool little things they come up with every night to enhance their roles and amuse the audience.
