The first book club meeting will be June 11th at 7:30PM EST and will be streamed here on YouTube. Read chapters 1-4 From "On Divine Names." Let's see how that goes and add more or less reading.
All right, everyone, unless "Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious" gets a lot more votes, I am choosing Dionysius Complete Works. I hope to cover more of Jung's works. I believe that Dionysius provides a good foundation not only for theology, mysticism, and Christian Neo-Platonism, but he will be important when we get into Jung. Jung himself cites Dionysius on several occasions, especially regarding his theory of archetypes and the nature of evil.
I am thinking of Tuesday evenings, 7/7:30PM EST. If you are interested, the book I will be using is linked below:
Live content coming. Thinking maybe twice a month - once open forum and once book study? I have some books to vote on below:
"The Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious" is a decent place to start when it comes to some of Jung's core concepts and theories. This book delves into Jung's concept of archetypes and the collective unconscious. It explores how these universal symbols and patterns shape human behavior, culture, and mythology.
"God and the Unconscious" is a significant work by Father Victor White, a Dominican priest and Jungian analyst. In this book, White explores the intersection of depth psychology, particularly Carl Jung's analytical psychology, with Christian theology. The central theme of the book revolves around the relationship between the human psyche, particularly the unconscious, and the divine or transcendent reality, which White addresses from a Christian perspective.
Dionysius's "Collected Works" is a foundational text for theology. Dionysius explores the nature of God and the various ways in which God is described and understood. He discusses divine attributes and the limitations of human language in capturing the essence of the divine. He delves into the nature of mystical experience and the ineffable encounter with the divine. He also explores the idea of apophatic or negative theology, which emphasizes the unknowability of God and the necessity of transcending ordinary conceptual understanding in order to approach the divine. Dionysius discusses the hierarchical structure of the celestial beings, including angels and other spiritual beings, and their role in mediating between humanity and God. He presents a hierarchical order of angelic beings, each with its own functions and attributes. And MUCH more!
