A tribute to Glen Hansard
August 4th, 2026

I woke up at 5:15 to watch Glen Hansards funeral on a live stream via Oregon, USA. I haven't cried that hard in quite a long time. It was hands down the most sad, yet beautiful thing I have ever witnessed. I immediately grabbed my guitar and learned this song of Glens. Eddie Vedder and Markéta Irglová sang this together at the service and it was just so touching and heartfelt.

I will always celebrate the life and songs of Glen Hansard and will always play a song or two of his at my shows from now on.

Rest in Peace Glen Hansard

You are celebrated and mourned by many around the globe. Your songs touched the hearts of so many souls and will continue to do so throughout eternity.

TRIED AND FAILED

The days have been very sad for myself and so many others since waking up on Wednesday, July 29th, and learning Glen Hansard was in a motorcycle accident on his way home from a "jam" at a pub in Ireland and passed away.

That evening someone recorded a cell phone video of Glen singing his heart out and sharing this new song of his with those at the Wrens Nest Pub in west Dublin, Ireland. Glen left for home just moments later on his motorcycle and that was the end of one beautiful story he shared with all of us for many years.

Like most all of his songs, this one strums the heartstrings. That was also the last known video of Glens long lived musical life and the only time that song had been heard by most.

I learned it today and wanted to share it with you. It was hard to get through it honestly. A beautiful and new song by one of the greatest to ever be. Tried and Failed.

Glen....You are missed, yet celebrated by so many. Thank you for all you have given the world! You were a life changer and helped me so much on my path through so many years. I will celebrate you, your songs, and swim in your raw and vulnerable passion every time I take the stage while I am here....always.

Pete started the "French route" in Saint Jean Pied de Port, France on April 8th and ended the 500 mile walk in Santiago, Spain on May 12th, 2026.
