Hello! My name is Scott and I garden in my coastal Texas suburban backyard. It is a fairly tiny garden and features a micro-orchard and micr-vineyard, but there is much to do and share. I'm in Zone 9a so it's easy to garden all year long.
I want to provide basic how-to videos for new gardeners, as well as more detailed investigations of methods and techniques, experiments and trials that are aimed at helping the established gardening community in whatever way I can. All of this, of course, while I continue to learn and share my mistakes. It's a wonderful world in the garden, and I hope you will enjoy my little patch of peace.

Guess what? I'm back for the 2025 growing season. I've been away from YouTube most of this past year due to personal reasons, I'll explain in the coming spring. But I've ordered the first of my seeds and will be seeing you soon (likely first week of January) on YouTube! I miss you all!

Well friends, summer has been rough on the garden but Hurricane Beryl came right on through like a truck. It is interesting to note what took damage and what did not. The tomatoes are all shoved over but they were crispy already from the heat. Apricot tree got shoved over but not the apple trees. Grape trellis stood and fruit stayed on the vine. Overall we're quite happy that we did not take more damage. No video on the immediate horizon for now, summer is just a bit rough this year.

Well I got banned from a Facebook group today for asking for rule clarification. The mods seem very touchy about deleting people's threads if not on the group's topic of vegetables. They say its not a group for talking about fruits. But every gardener knows fruits are anything with seed, like peppers and tomatoes and okra pods and so on. So I asked for clarification since they have peppers in their banner and loads of discussions about fruits. Ha! Touchy. Watch out if you venture into www.facebook.com/groups/zone9gardening Its like an HOA in there.

To my wonderful subscribers. I've been away and haven't published many videos this summer. I just wanted you to know everything is OK here. Its hot, the summer garden got away from me for the second year in a row, so I'm going to let it lay and pick up with the starting of seeds for the fall garden, probably in mid August. I may publish a video of the hideous state of the main beds, which are weedy but still producing cherry tomatoes and various peppers. The figs are ripening, the citrus are bearing, and the Muscadines are loaded and ripening (I'll video a harvest). But its dangerously hot outside, as you can tell from Phoebe's face. Thanks for tolerating my summer woes. :-)

I woke up to snow today in Zone 5b near my daughter's house in Springfield, Il. Drove home to my own house in Zone 9a here on the Texas coast. We passed through the leading edge of wild spring wake-up in northern Arkansas. Fascinating to see how the climates change in real time.

Scheduled for next week, hope you enjoy. Also one more coming Saturday - how to dismantle a freeze damaged citrus tree (and mulch the deadwood). Thanks for your continued kind remarks and comments!
