Welcome to Worthy of Praise, a Christian Worship and Praise music channel! Here, we lift our voices in worship and praise through songs that uplift the spirit and glorify God.
This is nice and it is good to help those in need, the Bible has a lot to say about this very thing but Jesus goes a step further. Do good to people even when you know they WON’T reciprocate.
“And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” Luke 6:33-36 ESV
“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 ESV
“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?” Romans 6:1-2 ESV
Pretty deep! Doesn’t always seem that easy though.
Well… It is not easy. It requires something that we do not possess on our own.
First we must recognize the sin in our own life and realize that this sin has separated us from God. We’ve all sinned and the wages for sin is death. Until we see that about ourselves, that our sin has condemned us as much as even the worst of us, we cannot hope to love others the way Christ loves.
Jesus Christ the Son of God, who is God in the flesh, came down from his throne above to dwell among us, live a perfect sinless life as a man and be condemned and die a death we deserved, becoming sin. God the Father poured out his wrath upon the Son while he hung on the cross, Jesus cried out, “It is finished.” Signifying the debt of sin owed by humanity had been paid in full. Christ died on that cross, was buried and three days later rose from the grave, defeating death. Then 40 days later ascended into heaven, alive, where he is today, seated at the right hand of the Father.
““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
John 3:16-18
Now those who have been saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, have been given a new nature. This new nature, seeks to love God and obey God, and seeks to put the old nature to death with the aide of the Holy Spirit who also dwells within the believer, convicting them of sin and guiding them through the Word of God.
This results in a hatred of sin, a love for God and a desire to please and obey him, and a love for the people and things that God loves.
This does not mean that believers are without sin but that they have been forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness, through Christ.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
1 John 2:1
This is God’s work within all believers.
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
Philippians 2:13
Jesus commands us to love our enemies. We cannot do this without the love and forgiveness of Christ first in our own lives.
““You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.”
Matthew 5:43-47
The scriptures are also clear, it is easy to say I believe and then carry on with our lives as is without any change, but this faith we say we have is useless. If this faith we say we have does not produce within us a change, then it is a dead faith. In other words a Christian in name only is no Christian.
“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!”
James 2:14-19
All the current songs are now available for download or streaming on Spotify and iTunes. I will keep the free downloads available on my website but if you choose to purchase the songs via iTunes or other platforms as they become available, I would greatly appreciate it.
While at work today, doing my rounds, something popped in my head, “be of good courage.” I went to do some chemical tests in the test lab, the radio was on and the local radio station plays a Gospel hour on Sundays that just so happened to start as I went in. The Bible passage reading was from Joshua Chapter 1, I got chills and my eyes welled up. Then as I was finishing up in the lab, my phone notification dinged, I looked to see what it was and it was the Bible App Verse of the Day notification that just so happened to be Joshua 1:9.
I don’t know what the near future is bringing but pray for me that I remember this in my time of need.
