Night Shift Chapter 3 β Tire-d yet? (funnybunny fanfic i have no where to post)
Once again, Pomni arrived at the gas station. She fueled up her car, the gritty feeling of the gas pump against her hands.
The bell rang as the light hit her eyes once again, causing Pomni to hover her hand above her head to block it.
She did what she usually did β Walk past the fridge, the ice machine, the unusual amount of beef jerky β until she approached the noodle aisle. Sometimes Pomni would change it up, trying absurd flavors. It was the most thrilling thing she could do anyway.
She appeared at the front, meeting up with Jax again.
βHey!β Pomni greeted him, βYou have the night shift again?β
He wearily looked up, βGot it for an indefinite amount of time, probably too long for me to live through..β He closed his eyes as Pomni chuckled of pity.
Jax lifted his slumped body off of the counter and breathed a large sigh.
βSo, what can I get you?β Pomni passed the cup across the workstation, Jax lazily scanning it.
β$1.75β Jax added. Pomni searched in her pocket for some extra change, her face dropping.
βUhm, give me a moment.β She struggled to find anything to earn her dinner.
βDont mind me, sorryβ she excused as she put her wallet on the counter to remove any extra obstacles. The quick realization came to her that she had no cash. She would have used her credit card, but her credit card was kept in a separate compartment in her purse, in which she left at work.
βStupid f!&king brainβ She cursed under her breath, hitting herself in the head.
βHeh, guess I don't have dinner today..β Pomni tried to make a light of the situation, tugging at Jax.
βOh, it's fine. Just take it on the house.β Pomni looked up, surprised.
βYou sure?β
βYeah, go ahead.β

Jax had no idea what he was doing. He always avoided making any extra conversation, yet alone give any favors.
Pomni reciprocated a big grin as she grabbed the noodles.
βThank you so so much!!β She was ecstatic, making Jax smile. Something about herβ¦
She fixed up the noodles at the station.
The ventilation system hummed, pulling at the edges of Jaxβs consciousness. His head started nodding, jerking back every time he snapped into reality. His vision felt like a haze, until his head banged against the desk.
β.
The heavy daze shattered from the thumping of somebody's finger on his head. The corner of the counter left an imprinted mark on his arm and his face felt dry.
βGOOD MORNING TO YOU, SIR!β A loud, whimsical voice felt like it broke the sound barrier. Anything loud was ten times louder for somebody with giant rabbit ears.
In his groggy state, Jax looked up to see a large pair of dentures with floating eyeballs.
βGuh..β He lifted his heavy body up, βHow could I help you, sir..β Jax cleared his throat, removing the collected saliva out of his air ways.
βI~β The teeth sang, βWould LOVE to buy this case of TOOTHPICKS!β He spoke as if he were announcing his dialogue to an audience. His ego made Jax suspect him of being some big boss.
βUhm, alright. Is that all for today?β
βWhy, what else could you need? You can use toothpicks for ALL your thrills! Activity, wonder, danger, horror, pain, suffering, agony, death, disease β HECK, you could even use it in angel food cake!β
A small, mischievous bubble floated from behind him, devouring the sample of cake the man represented. His face mutated from cheerful to furious, tensing his position.
βYOU PARASITE!β He punched the critter, seemingly popping it into nothing.
Jax was certainly out of it, but this guy was crazy. Good thing he wasnβt his boss..

Pomni lay in bed, the clock ticking progressively getting louder and more frequent. She tossed and turned, the feeling of metal bars built for keeping the bed up jabbing her sides. The entire bed was lukewarm, not even the corners had some cool relief. She looked up at the ceiling, watching the shadows of passing cars stretch and squash. Her bones ached, the need to move around increased.
Pomni squeezed her pillow, gazing at her phone. She decided to treat herself to some doordashed Cinnabun for the morning if she couldn't enjoy at least a bit of late night dreaming.
βEnter Card Numberβ The screen flashed, burning her deprived eyes. She reached for her purse at the side of her bed.
She kept a clean internal chart of where she kept each item. Keys were left on the coat hanger and her phone and purse were left on top of the nightstand, in front of a futile lamp.
The purse was not there. The memory of leaving it at work hit her like a truck.
In a city like this, leaving your personal belongings, even at a safe place like work, was a recipe for disaster. She quickly jerked herself up to get into her car.
Grabbing the keys from the coat hanger, she gasped as she nearly fell face first down the steps. The car door refused to open, causing a struggle. Finally, she rested up on the seat cushion, leaning her head against the back to prep her for driving in her mental state.
The car lit up, signaling that it was ready to use. She put it in reverse, turning her head to see clearly. Something finally seemed to be going smoothly, until she heard a large βBANG!β
βWhat was that?" She yelped, quickly breaking out of the car. She slid across the concrete, observing the vehicle. A nail had popped the back left tire, meaning she would either have to pick the purse up tomorrow or take public transport. At five in the morning. With creeps lurking in the shadows..
Everything was going wrong.

You guys count writing as YouTube content, right? I just want to make sure if youβre fine with me posting that frequently while sprinkling in videos and shorts a few times a week instead of focusing on one short a day.

Night Shift Chapter 2 - Keys (Funnybunny comic I canβt post anywhere)
The car ascended into the driveway, making an almost angelic buzzing sound. It wasnβt one of those new and fancy electric cars, but it was pretty old so it made plenty of weird noises; many of which drove Pomni insane while driving.
She spun her keys around her finger, fidgeting from the one-to-many energy drinks she inhaled at work.
Her mind bustled with thoughts. βAm I seriously losing it a week into this job?β
Pomni had a history of seeking medical help about her sleeping habits. Countless prescriptions resolved nothing, leaving her with nothing to do but to watch her comfort shows all night. Her recent job tired her out enough to get her asleep a bit quicker, but on the downside it didnβt give her any time to savor that very draining sleep.
The keys rustled, twirling to unlock the door. She flipped the light switch up, reawakening her as the light flashed her eyes. Being awake was the last thing she needed right now.
Climbing up the stairs, her brain dwelled on the situation earlier. She found the workers' clumsiness amusing. Maybe sheβd see him tomorrow for her one week anniversary on sleep deprivation.
She plowed into the bed, restlessly fixing the sheets and adjusting her position. The end of the day was both the most rewarding and the most mentally draining part of the day. Too much quiet time to think about life, too many uncomfortable positions, but also free from the busy work life.
Multiple of her wishes included finding a balance of work and fun, maybe even finding a partner to have a life with. She didn't care much about their jobs or history, she mainly focused on personality and if she enjoyed being with them to the point of wanting to be with them forever.
She had only felt that way for one person before, but that story resolved.. terribly.
Those memories were never brought up much in her brain, what really tugged at her was social experiences she had earlier that day. She was the definition of an overthinker. It could be a completely normal and happy interaction and sheβd still find a way to think of it as she did something wrong.
She squeezed a pillow with one hand while the other grabbed a new and βlifechangingβ prescription. It worked the first day, knocking her out. The next few days of taking them though, they only kept her up longer. That's how it always goes.
But it was her only hope of getting some mild distraction.

Zero customers arrived the rest of the night. The clock marked 5:25, meaning Jax had fifteen minutes before Zooble came in.
Jax drove himself to the back to βrestockβ some more items again. Nothing runs out on the night shift, to be fair nothing ever runs out at his store. Most 7-Elevens got super popular and had people coming in all the time, but this empty area was barely hanging on.
He partially restocked the normal energy drink, water bottle, sun screen etcetera. βRingβ The sound of his roommate Zooble walking in the building came to his attention.
βHow ya doing, clumsy?β They joked around.
βUgh, whatever.β It wasnβt even that big of a deal, he just dropped an item, why did Gangle have to blab her mouth to Zooble?
βHey, check this out.β She flipped her phone up to show a random tiktok they found the previous day. Jax gave a snarky laugh, retrieving more supplies.
βAll right then, my shift is over.β Elevating his hands onto his head, Jax progressed towards the front door. βYa need anything extra, Zoob?β They shook their head in response to him, leaving him free to leave.
He sprung into his car, joyful facade quickly dropping. He owned a manual stick shift, nothing too out of the ordinary. Pushing the clutch pedal down, he twisted the keys and shifted to first gear.
After manually booting up the unnecessarily tedious car, he drove out of the parking lot and accelerated towards his home. He lived in an apartment block on the sixth floor, along with his roommate and co-worker Zooble.
They had known each other through family friends before they worked together. Jax didnβt like to refer to them as a friend, but most of the activities they did together would be categorized as such. Becoming roommates was a neutral agreement for simplicity sake.
It was 1PM before he knew it. Whenever youβre stuck with nightshift, you basically become nocturnal. Go to bed at 6AM, wake up at 1PM, eat lunch, go about your normal day, go to work at 12AM.
As much as Jax hated changing shifts, he was used to it. Heβs worked for these understaffed stores multiple years.
It was all the same.

Nobody talks abt how when a story has this really cool foreshadowing or meaning or tied together plot, that usually comes from coincidence. Some of it is planned, but sometimes youβll be writing and just realize βwait..β lol
