Changing the behaviour of farmers! 🌾💡

At the Centre of Excellence on Watershed Management, UAS, GKVK, we're proud to be part of the Land Resource Inventory (LRI) initiative, working to transform agriculture in Karnataka! 🌟

We're leading the charge in Maidalakere Sub-watershed, Tumkur district, Karnataka, with a special focus on Ragi crop in the Central Dry Zone. Our goal is to change farmers' behavior in fertilizer application, enabling them to adopt LRI-based practices and optimize inputs. 🌿

Recently, under the pilot study, we distributed LRI-based fertilizers to farmers at the demonstration site on July 18th and 21st, 2025, aiming to optimize yields and encourage neighboring farmers to adopt our recommendations. 🌾💰

Centre of Excellence on Watershed Management

Centre of Excellence on Watershed Management organized a three-day "Training on application of Scientific Data Generated under REWARD Program for Planning and Implementation of MGNREGS / Watershed Development Programs” from July 09 to 11, 2025, at the Centre of Excellence on Watershed Management, UASB, GKVK.
The participants were the MGNREGS officers, Department of Agriculture officers, Government of Karnataka and LRI Extension Managers, REWARD.

In this aspect, CoE-WM organized a field visit to Maidalakere Sub watershed, Madagondanahalli village, Urdigere Hobli, Tumkur Taluk, Tumkur District for the training participants on July 10, 2025 to learn and understand soil and water conservation measures. The program was coordinated by team CoE-WM, headed by Dr. N. B. Prakash, Special officer, Dr. Nagaraja N., Dr. Dasog G. S., Consultants of CoE-WM.

Centre of Excellence on Watershed Management

The de-briefing meeting of the Technical Review Mission of the World Bank assisted Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) program was conducted on June 23, 2025 at Department of Land Resources, (DoLR), New Delhi.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Secretary, DoLR, Government of India. The meeting aimed to debrief the outcomes of the Technical Review Mission, discuss and decide the future plan of action, and include a presentation of the Decision Support System (DSS) developed by Karnataka under the REWARD Program. As part of the meeting, a presentation of the Decision Support System (DSS) developed by Karnataka under the REWARD program was jointly demonstrated by Dr. Nagaraja N., Consultant, CoE-WM, and Dr. Virupaksha H. S., Research Associate, CoE-WM.

Join us “LIVE” for the National Conference on Land Resource Inventory (LRI) for Sustainable Watershed Management!


Scheduled from June 3-5, 2025, at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (GKVK campus), this conference brings together experts to share insights on LRI-based watershed development. Organized by the Centre of Excellence on Watershed Management and Watershed Development Department (WDD), Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and under the aegis of the World Bank funded REWARD program.



The conference will feature technical sessions on key themes, including:
❇️ Prospects of LRI-based approaches in Watershed Management
❇️ Land Resource Inventory and Hydrology
❇️ Decision Support System (DSS) for Watershed Planning
❇️ Community Participation in Watershed Management


A panel discussion on “Watershed Development in India-Way Forward” and field visit to a watershed developed using LRI approaches are also planned.
