📚🔥 The Great Library of Alexandria – Knowledge Lost Forever

The Great Library of Alexandria, built in the 3rd century BC in Egypt, was one of the most ambitious projects of the ancient world. It aimed to collect all the knowledge of humanity. Scholars from Greece, India, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and many other regions came to study there.
The vision began with Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Great’s generals who founded the city of Alexandria. His son, Ptolemy II Philadelphus, is credited with establishing the Library as part of the great Mouseion (Temple of the Muses). They were advised by Demetrius of Phalerum, a Greek scholar who helped design its early organization. Later, Callimachus of Cyrene created the Pinakes, the world’s first library catalog, classifying hundreds of thousands of scrolls on astronomy, medicine, mathematics, literature, and history.
Every ship that docked in Alexandria was required to hand over its manuscripts so copies could be added to the collection. This made the Library the center of ancient learning and culture, attracting great thinkers like Euclid and Eratosthenes.
But tragedy struck. Through wars, fires, and neglect, the Library was destroyed. Historians still debate the exact cause, but what is certain is that priceless knowledge was lost forever.
Today, the Great Library remains a powerful symbol of human curiosity and wisdom, and a reminder of how fragile knowledge can be if not preserved.
