I believe TRUTH is the only source of growth.

I believe the best people are those who do not hide from their failures, their trials and their shames... but those who call them out loud and learn from them... who call them out loud so others may learn from them.

And I believe the same is true of a nation.

I LOVE my country.

Not the politicians, the parties or the symbols.
I LOVE what we set out to be... NOT the path we have taken.

You cannot bury the past....

The album moves through Indigenous dispossession, the Indian Removal era and the Trail of Tears, American chattel slavery, the broken Reconstruction promise of “forty acres and a mule,” convict leasing and prison labor, the 1898 Wilmington coup, the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre in Greenwood, Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s buried place in rock-and-roll history, Japanese American incarceration under Executive Order 9066, the Tuskegee syphilis study, Henrietta Lacks and HeLa cells, FBI surveillance and COINTELPRO-era repression, and modern attempts to censor history from classrooms.

This is not nostalgia. This is testimony. The dead are not quiet because the living keep lying.
