⚡ Brushless Alternator Excitation System Explained
The diagram shows the complete excitation path of a Brushless Alternator, from voltage regulation by the AVR to power generation in the main stator.
🔴 DC Exciter Coil (Left Side)
The AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) supplies controlled DC current to the stationary DC Exciter Coil. By increasing or decreasing this current, the AVR regulates the generator output voltage.
⚫ AC Exciter Coil
The rotating AC Exciter Coil cuts the magnetic field produced by the DC Exciter Coil and generates a three-phase AC output.
⚫ 3-Phase Diode Assembly
The three-phase AC produced by the exciter is fed directly to the rotating diode bridge. These diodes rectify AC into DC.
⚫ Surge Suppressor
Connected across the rotor circuit, the surge suppressor protects the rotating diode assembly from voltage spikes and switching transients.
⚫ Rotor DC Coil
The rectified DC current energizes the Main Rotor DC Coil, creating a strong rotating magnetic field.
🔵 Main Stator Coil
As the rotor magnetic field rotates inside the stator, a three-phase AC voltage is induced in the Main Stator Coil.
🔵 Breaker & AVR Sensing
The generated output passes through the breaker to the electrical load. The AVR continuously senses the generator terminal voltage and automatically adjusts excitation to maintain a stable output voltage.
Working Sequence
AVR → DC Exciter Coil → AC Exciter Coil → 3-Phase Diode Bridge → Rotor DC Coil → Rotating Magnetic Field → Main Stator Coil → Breaker → Load
Why It Is Called a Brushless Alternator?
✅ No Brushes
✅ No Slip Rings
✅ Excitation current reaches the main rotor through the rotating rectifier assembly
✅ Lower maintenance requirements
✅ Higher reliability and longer service life
This arrangement is widely used in marine generators because it provides stable voltage regulation while eliminating the wear and maintenance associated with conventional brush-type excitation systems.

A successful reefer charging operation starts long before refrigerant enters the system. Proper evacuation, leak testing, and controlled charging are essential to ensure maximum cooling efficiency, system reliability, and compressor protection.
🔹 Pull a deep vacuum to remove moisture and non-condensable gases
🔹 Verify system integrity with a vacuum hold test
🔹 Charge refrigerant accurately by weight
🔹 Avoid overcharging and maintain receiver expansion space
🔹 Follow environmental and safety regulations at all times
A properly charged reefer system means: ✅ Better cooling performance

✅ Longer equipment life
✅ Reduced risk of breakdowns
