Sorry for the lack of uploads, I haven’t really had ideas for an unscripted video recently. I was going to do an Animal Crossing Switch unboxing, but was having PC trouble for a few weeks and decided not to film it.

I’m also still working on the final BGR episode! Even though the script is done, I keep thinking of new ways to fine-tune it or add potential Easter Eggs/callbacks. I’m gonna sit on it a while longer before filming it.

Hey everyone! So I’ll get right to the point - I need to get something off my chest as it’s something I decided a while ago. Been holding it off, because.. well, I guess a part of me didn’t want to believe it.

Pokémon XY is the final episode of Balrog’s Game Room and I am semi-retiring from YouTube.

For reasons that are explained further in the episode, the main reason is that I’ve already reached all the goals I made for my channel! We hit 100k subscribers (which is amazing, thank you so much!!), I found an audience of people who I can share my gaming experiences with, and made a lot of great new friends along the way. As you probably know, YouTube has never been my end goal - it’s been something fun I do on the side while I pursued an IT career. And as my personal life and priorities keep evolving, there continues to be less and less time to make content for a full series.

To be honest, I’ve spent a lot of my adult life reacting to what’s right in front of me. I need to graduate, get a job, get this video out, travel places, etc. While there’s nothing wrong with that (and really enjoyed the adventure!), I never really had time to decide what I want for my life long-term. There’s so many things outside of videos I want to learn. I want to go back to school. I want to learn how to cook better. I want to explore other creative outlets like making music and interior decorating. I’ve come to accept that using my spare time for my interests means.. moving further away from video production.

So you’re probably wondering… why don’t I just make content for the main series sparingly? Well there are two reasons as to why I don’t think that works.. first off, my series take a lot of planning beyond just making an episode. There is a specific style I try to hit in my series and in BGRA, there is a story I’m trying to tell that I need to completely remember as I create it. Taking giant breaks between making one video (due to said lack of time) gets very frustrating and exhausting, and ironically burned me out more than when I was starting the series. Second off - since this is not a career for me, I want the videos I create to serve some sort of purpose and want to continue getting better. Unfortunately I’ve reached a wall where the amount of spare time I have and the quality of my main series content can no longer increase, so I don’t really have the drive to make more as of this time. I really think if I made more full episodes, they wouldn’t be very good and would be sloppy. And I can’t continue making each full episode a one-year cycle. It isn’t an issue of editing, either - it’s extremely difficult to find a time to film giant projects.

That said - I’m still gonna be doing content on the main channel! As you’ve seen, I’ve been releasing some unscripted videos every few months and those are still feasible - with no overarching series in place, I will try to put more effort into those episodes. My end goal is for them to be very close to my older content. And I think I will still do a review from time to time! But yeah, I think my days of “series” are done indefinitely. This will allow me to make good one-off videos without the personal pressure of finishing something much greater.

I’m also getting more serious about putting Twitch compilations on the main channel - I can’t describe how happy streaming makes me. They’re really funny and have been something I truly look forward to every week. I know everyone doesn’t have time to watch whole streams, so it’ll help you all get the best parts of it. Okay, so.. as some of you know, I was working on another season of BGRA. The premise was interesting and was designed to be a middle ground between my classic content and story-driven content. Eventually it grew so much that I decided to make it a brand new series! So while this is also going on hold, if I ever decide to come out of retirement - this will be the series I work on. It’s fresh, it’s fun, and I think it’ll really be something that inspires people. For now though, I’ve really lost my drive to make episodic content and am using all of what I have left for the final episode.

So.. that’s that! The XY review has been a video I’ve scripted on and off for over 6 years. It’s my magnum opus and I am very happy with how it’s turning out. Since it’s the last episode, it’s a long one and I am taking my sweet time with it to make it the best it can be. I really hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for reading this long post - videos will still continue and I think they will be ones all of you can enjoy! It’s just time I put BGR to rest, at least for a while. And I’m so happy to say that instead of scrapping it.. it will be complete. Ending the series on my own terms is something I’m extremely grateful for and I’m so glad to be in this position. I hope you stay to see what’s next, but if this is where we part.. thank you for everything!
