Ms. Bohemian Soul

I’m Jewel and I designed and built my tiny house in 2015 because I want to live and know freedom.

The Off Ramp represents that journey, and what I’ve lived and learned along the way.
The Off Ramp represents exiting things that no longer serve you and redesigning with intention, clarity, and liberation.

Sometimes the exit is immediate.
Sometimes it's down shifting and changing lanes.
The direction is the same, heading to peace, freedom and joy.

Here you’ll find tiny house tips, community conversations, design insights, personal reflections, and the truths and work that have shaped my journey for more than a decade. My lived experience as a Black woman in this movement, centering the stories and realities that often go untold.

Whether you’re simplifying your life, reimagining home, navigating a personal transition, or choosing a new direction, this space is here to support your Off Ramp — whatever that looks like for you.

Welcome to Ms. Bohemian Soul TV.
Welcome to The Off Ramp.

Soul Collective, I won’t be live here on YTube today. I have had a busy weekend celebrating folks and participating in their joy. A 60th birthday celebration yesterday and a college graduation brunch this morning.

I spoke about joy last weekend and how important it is to find ours and center it, and I hope you’re locking your joy in.

I’ve started working on this new outdoor space… I’m envisioning dinner parties, soirées, dîner-en-soul, shin digs, fêtes, mixers, luncheons, gatherings, birthday bashes, fiestas and morning meditations….

Things that bring me joy, with people who bring me joy…. Y’all know creating new spaces also brings me joy, so that’s a bonus!

Find and be in your joy!

Soul Collective! No live today, good people. I'm resting (and in reclamation!) 🖤

Instead, I wanted to share something unexpected.

Folks shared with me that ‪@OfficialBlackWallStreet‬ featured my tiny house journey as part of a documentary on Black homeownership, land access, and alternative pathways to living well.

The piece reminded me just how long I've been having these conversations and advocating for tiny houses as a tool for freedom, homeownership, wealth building, and lifestyle design.

If you've been part of this community for a while, I'd love for you to watch.

If you're newer here, it's a pretty good introduction to both my tiny house journey and the work I've been doing for more than a decade.

Watch here: https://youtu.be/FsXDwmexiOM

Share it and leave a comment on the video, I'd love to hear your thoughts after you watch it.

Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday Soul Collective,

I won’t be live today, I’m traveling from a conference/retreat on co-living, shared housing, and tiny homes.

Our conversations were focused on what I’m always talking about -that there are other ways to live outside of what folks consider the “norm”. Real, tangible options that challenge what we’ve been led to believe housing is supposed to look like.

But there’s also a part that’s not talked about enough -those options require something from you. It’s not just about housing.

They require you to choose yourself.
To question what you’ve normalized.
To prepare, not just logistically, but mentally, emotionally, and financially -in ALL the ways, for a different way of living.

It’s not just about downsizing stuff.
It’s about shifting how you think about independence, community, ownership, and what you need in your life for what’s next.

As we things are shifting, in the world, in your own life, and maybe you’re also feeling like something needs to change… you’re not wrong.

The question is, are you preparing for what’s next, or just thinking about it? The time is NOW for radically choosing yourself…

I’ll see y’all next Sunday.

🖤

Soul Collective, I will not be live today. Wishing everyone a fabulous Sunday and a grand week ahead!

Also, find your people… Community is so very necessary right now. Here’s a pic from last Sunday as some of the Soul Collective gathered in the Charlotte area for the film screening I hosted.

I’m hosting "Tiny Homes, Big Ideas" a film screening and conversation about tiny homes and housing possibilities, and I’d love to see some familiar faces there. The screening is in Kannapolis, NC on 3/22/26 @ 7pE.

Tickets: www.eventbrite.com/e/tiny-homes-big-ideas-a-film-s…

Tiny house builder extraordinaire Chris Strathy will be joining me for the evening. We’ll start with a short film (trailer below) on creative reuse and tiny homes, followed by a live Q&A about tiny house living and the growing effort to expand legal placement for movable tiny homes (THOWs). This event is also a fundraiser supporting national advocacy work to make movable tiny homes a legal and accessible housing option across the country.

Advancial Credit Union is the Main Sponsor for this event. They offer signature loans, an unsecured personal loan option that may help members finance a tiny home, expanding possible pathways to ownership. Their team will also be onsite at the event to connect with attendees and share more about their services.

A few additional sponsorship opportunities are still available for organizations that would like to support this work.

Please note: tickets must be purchased in advance. Hope you’ll come be part of the conversation.

Good morning Soul Collective, I will not be live on YTube today - I need a lazy Sunday… But, I want to share some thoughts with you about finding your “why”.

My why was never about aesthetics. It definitely wasn’t about a trend -tiny houses weren’t even a thing when I started this journey.

It was and still is: Because I want to live and know freedom. Know it in my body, my nervous system, my spirit and in every one of my choices and decisions.

As Black women, life becomes calculation early. Last week we spoke about the mental tax that is constant and later becomes a physical tax.

The why for your journey can’t be aesthetic. It can’t be borrowed, based on someone else’s dreams or opinions. It has to be solid enough to withstand tough times and pressure. Financial, cultural, social, family, friends -and the pressure of your own doubts and fears.

One of my early questions to folks and hashtags was, “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”

I built a tiny house, a couple of times over. What would you do? What does freedom look like for you? And are you designing your life accordingly?

If you’re grappling with those questions and in figuring out your why - join us in The Soul Collective. Folks there are working through life and lifestyle transformations -but, in community!

We’re hosting our Monthly Community Conversation this evening at 6:45pmE. Join us, there’s even a free 21 day trial available to allow you to check the space out.
