Hobby Potter - Tammy Jo Schoppet

Welcome to my pottery journey! I'm Tammy Jo, a ceramic artist sharing pottery making, wheel throwing, and the creative process behind handmade functional ceramics since 2011.

I started with a crazy challenge: make a cup every single day for a year and film it all. That 365-Days of Clay Cups project taught me pottery—and it also taught me that sharing the journey (the fumbles, the breakthroughs, the "wait, how did that happen?") was what kept me going and growing!

Every video brings you into my California studio to see what I'm making and why—the stories, the creative decisions, the meaning behind each piece. I create joyful pottery designed to turn everyday moments into something special, and you can find those pieces at EXPRESSives Art.

Whether you're here to learn pottery techniques, follow the creative journey, or just love watching clay transform—welcome. Subscribe and let's make something meaningful together.

LOST IN THE ARCHIVES - TELL ME IF YOU AGREE! It has been almost 12 years since making this cup, a day, for a year. I had to laugh at some of it's "almost" ASMR quailities (before that was even an "thing" LOL). It's one of my least watched/seen 365 Day Cup videos. By this point in my 365 Day project, I was only 68 days from my final cup. In hindsight, if I had thrown all these cups consecutively, and in great mass than just 1 / day, my skill level would have been much more advance after this 10 month period. If you want to watch a cup throwing, handle making video ... add this video to your day! JUST A REMINDER: These were done in real- time, so there was no way to show the final glazed cup at that time. (It's the book on Amazon though ;P ) http://youtube.com/watch?v=YuhuPKytyi...

I just emptied my shelves of all 2oz bottles (effectively filling up 4 of these containers! ). My shelves are less cluttered, and it feels like I just got 100 new glazes! I only seemed to grab staple colors because I couldn't get a grasp of what they were... Now, I can see everything together at a quick glance and easily use them and refill them when empty!

72 hours from start to finish! This 9" tall wall came to be because I had a submission deadline and a failed piece. I had to force dry it and baby it for 24 hours, apply underglaze and transparent glaze then fire. Making as well as invigorating! Gaining a new appreciation for the single fire method! 😁😁😁

This tip changed everything!

This tip changed my life (lol), when some of the underglaze colors were thinned with water, they had a tendency to burn off in the firings... even more so when I added a transparent glaze. Now I add white when I need a tint and the colors stay more true!

My 1st step back into the world (submitting an art piece to a gallery) fun fun, and GUESS what happened to me! 😜 #Iactuallywon1stplace

From original bisque fire to final piece had multiple layers of underglaze and firings! So much fun in the studio! Hope you all are enjoying your clay time!

When I make pottery I always feel there is a little bit of me in every pot! Watching someone receive a pot they have never physically handled makes me excited and also nervous about the reaction. This was really heartwarming to watch! Thank you so much for sharing your box opening and I'm so excited to see your 101 Jugs Project!!!!
