The man who spent his life demanding Africa's freedom is now asking Africa for refuge. Pan-African activist Kemi Seba has formally applied for political asylum in SA, days after being arrested in Pretoria for immigration violations. It comes as Benin pushes for his extradition over alleged incitement of a foiled coup last year, in which he posted a video calling it "the day of liberation" for his country. Also arrested were his 18-year-old son and a South African national who allegedly paid R250,000 to smuggle them into Zimbabwe and on to Europe. His lawyer calls the case politically motivated. All three remain in custody until their next court appearance on 29 April. Should SA honour its own long tradition of granting asylum to political figures?
