'Woodworm' is 1 year old!

Unpopular and possibly controversial opinion: This along with 'Mistaken Identity' are my favourite videos I have done.

As we speak story 3's script is fully written with the first draft of story 4 also in the works.

'Woodworm' turns a year old next week. Let's see if we can get it to 6K views before then.

If you follow me on twitter you've probably seen this already, but I thought I might as well post it here too:

Ever since I started working on 'Steam Railway Stories' I wanted to try and at least break away from the Thomas aesthetic. Not just by having the series set in its own universe (which a number of outsiders tend to overlook) but also with the way the character faces looked. In other words: 'Try something different". The idea for this style came from many different sources.

1. I remember seeing many images of Stepney from the Bluebell Railway where his face had been painted on the smoke box door with the hinges and smoke box dart still showing through. This was very likely before they started painting sheets of round metal (don't know what material they actually used) and making casts that would hook onto the front of the smokebox for Day Out with Thomas events. The take away from this being it gave the effect the face looked like it was 'meshed' into the smoke box door and the face was the door.

2. I also came across images of engines where their smokebox doors were the same colour as their liveries. Example blue engine with a blue smokebox door and green engine with a green smokebox door. There were some that had smokebox doors that were even painted grey like the faces in Thomas. Again that impressed me.

However, I've felt held back by what audiences would be use to seeing. In this case, grey faces with noses as per normal. True there are many other talking train shows that have their own design and look for faces. Heck even in TUGS the design of the faces make it stand out a bit more by having the faces flesh coloured and their eyes look like windows. But it seems the way the faces in Thomas look does seem to be the definitive look for sentient locomotives. But despite that, I want to know your opinions on this design.

'Did you notice this in 'Steam Railway Stories'?'

In the opening shot of 'The Argument', there are some smoke effects. This was achieved using an incense stick. I previously used this technique in season 1 which was then replaced with the fog machine used in season 2.

More of this effect was used in the first shoot of this short but the idea was dropped due to the limited space, (as well as another reason which I'm gonna save for a future post) and everything following this clip was refilmed. I was filming in a very tight space. (This is literally the back end of the tables, corners and all.) And using smoke effects in tight cramped filming spaces is not very ideal.

5 years ago today saw the release of episode 5 of 'Steam Railway Stories'. This also marked the debut appearance of everyone's favourite character from the series: Erlestoke Manor.

Something for a bit of fun:
If I was to include any other character/s from 'Steam Railway Stories' in my Thomas head canon along with Dom, who would it be and why?

'The Argument' has reached 3K views. Thank you for the reception despite it being uploaded a week after the series's 5th anniversary. (Insert embarrassed shrug here)

Unfortunately this will be the last 'Steam Railway Stories' themed content for this year. Not because of focus on other projects. But because of... something else. Something that I've been meaning to address which I'll go more into detail in another video.
