A car electrical system works like the nervous system of the vehicle. It supplies power to start the engine and run everything electrical in the car.

Here’s the simple step-by-step process:

1. Battery Supplies Power

The battery stores electricity.
When the car is OFF, the battery powers:

* Headlights
* Radio
* Dashboard
* Door locks

When you start the car, the battery sends power to the starter motor.


2. Starter Motor Cranks the Engine

The starter motor uses battery power to turn the engine.
Once the engine begins running, the car can now produce its own electricity.


3. Alternator Produces Electricity

After the engine starts:

* The alternator spins using the engine belt.
* It generates electricity.
* It powers the car systems.
* It also recharges the battery.

Without the alternator, the battery will eventually die.


4. Wires Carry Electricity

Electrical wires move power around the vehicle:

* Positive wire sends power.
* Ground wire returns power.

Bad wiring or weak ground can cause:

* Lights dimming
* Hard starting
* Sensors failing
* ECU problems


5. Fuses Protect the System

Fuses act like safety guards.
If too much electricity flows:

* The fuse blows
* It protects components from damage

Example:

* Horn fuse
* Fuel pump fuse
* Headlight fuse


6. Relays Control High Power Components

Relays are electrical switches.
They help small signals control bigger components like:

It receives information from sensors and controls:

* Ignition
* Transmission
* Cooling fans


Simple Flow

Battery → Starter → Engine Starts → Alternator Charges → Electricity Goes To All Car Systems

Common Electrical Problems

* Dead battery
* Faulty alternator
* Bad starter
* Corroded battery terminals
* Blown fuse
* Broken wire
* Weak grounding
