A Dude Who Reads

Hi. I'm Adam, and I'm a dude who reads... just about anything. Fiction to non-fiction. Fantasy to philosophy. Classics to comics. Poetry to parenting books. And everything in between. I started this channel as a way to connect with other readers, and to share my passion for reading widely. So, whether you're a reader or just someone who wants to read more, check out some of the videos, and drop me a line. I'd love to chat and to discuss.

A Dude Who Reads

I'm baaaack! After a long hiatus, I've got 3 new videos coming out on Tuesday, including one that will explain where I've been for the past year, and my future plans for this channel. I'm hoping you'll check it out, and drop me a line to say hello! Cheers!

Do you have any books to recommend to me? One of the awesome side effects of having a Booktube channel is that people will recommend books to you based on what you talk about. Since starting this channel a few months ago, I've received OVER 300 BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS from viewers. In the spirit of spreading the wealth, I'm working on a video to share the most popular recommendations. So, do you have any recos you want to add to the tally? Drop me a comment and let me know!

A Dude Who Reads

So, you may have noticed that my rate of video releases has slowed down. Part of the reason is that I had a few videos almost ready to go before I scrapped them.

I started this channel as a hobby. To have fun. But already, I’ve started to feel the pull to chase “views.” Before I fall down that rabbit hole, and end up burning out on YouTube, I’m making some small changes.

For starters, I’m capping the amount of hours I spend on this channel every week, and if that means a video comes out every ten days, every other week, or every 3rd week, so be it.

Second, I want to put more time into honing the aspects of video creation I enjoy: the planning of videos, the storytelling aspect, and my on-camera presence. Hopefully, that translates to better videos!

Third, the kinds of books I talk about is about to get even MORE eclectic as I pursue topics that are interesting to me, rather than what YouTube Analytics is telling me that my “audience” wants (if you’re reading this, I’d like to think of you as more than an “audience,” and more like a friend I’ve never met in person).

Fourth, I won’t be doing certain types of videos that are standard in the BookTube community. Things like TBRs are staples, but I don’t really see what value I’m adding by telling you about what I’m (probably) GOING to read.

Will this lead to huge growth for this channel? Unlikely. Will it result in me doing it for a lot longer? That’s the hope. And I hope you stick around for the ride.

Thanks and happy reading!

It's been exactly one month since I posted my first video to YouTube, and in that time I've been blown away by this community. I joined "BookTube" because I wanted an opportunity to talk about books and in the past month, I think I've had more bookish conversations than I have in the last several years combined. Thank you so much to everyone who has watched and a special thanks to those who have reached out with comments, recommendations, and kind words!

In an attempt to give just a little bit back, I'm planning on doing a video showcasing some of the excellent smaller creators that are making awesome bookish content on YouTube. I already have a few in mind, but if you know of any excellent creators who deserve a little more attention (think small channels), shoot them my way!

Thanks and happy reading!
