Hello! Sorry, no video again this weekend. A family funeral and the day job took priority, plus loads of my footage is still being recovered from that busted SSD. I do have a question for you though. I've been offered a desktop CNC machine to try, should I go for it?

I'm quite keen because it's a method of manufacturing that I've never tried, but I don't know if it has much potential for railway modellers. I've also heard there's quite a lot of learning to be done if you want good results (reminded of the 3D scanner ordeal). Votes and comments below please.

Here's a learn from my mistake moment. Last week one of my SSDs (computer storage) failed. Completely dead with absolutely no warning after only 15 months of use. It contained nearly 4TB of video related to multiple unreleased/unfinished Little Wicket projects, much of which can't be re-shot.

I have cloud and network storage which I should backup onto, and I used to do this for my commercial work, but I got complacent when it came to my personal projects. About half was backed up, but half wasn't. The drive is covered under warranty, but now I'm looking at £750 to have a specialist attempt to recover the data and there's no guarantee it'll work.

Apparently SSDs are being made with cheaper, less reliable components and failing more frequently. Unlike HDDs, which sometimes give warning signs of failure, SSDs often stop working very suddenly.

Please learn from my mistake and routinely backup everything if it's important.
