THE GUIDE - FC 26 Tutorials, Tips & Tricks!

Most players run their midfielder back when defending counter attacks.

That's exactly why they keep conceding.

Running back feels safe. But all you're doing is following the opponent's attack - not stopping it.

Here's the problem: when the opponent plays through midfield and finds their striker, the chance is already half-built. The striker becomes the pivot for everything that follows.

So instead of reacting, you need to cut it off before it gets there.

Here's how to do it:

1. Use L1/LB to get back into the action with the right player
2. Read where the opponent wants to play next - most of the time, it's the striker
3. Do one right stick player switch to the defender closest to that passing lane
4. Use jockey (L2/LT) to move in front of the pass without over-committing

That last point matters. Jockey keeps you in control. If you sprint forward without it and the opponent plays a through ball instead, you've just pulled your center back out of position for nothing.

When it works, you don't just win the ball - you're already facing forward with space to attack. 🎯

Now the real question is: when do you commit, and when do you hold your position?

That's the part most players get wrong. This in-depth tutorial breaks down exactly how to read those moments before the pass is played - so you're moving at the right time, not just guessing 👉 bit.ly/Clean-Intercept-YT-Post

THE GUIDE - FC 26 Tutorials, Tips & Tricks!

You're not using your striker right - and you don't even know it.

Not because he's missing chances. Because you're not using him in build-up play.

Here's what most players do when they have the ball wide with a midfielder:

1. Look for a through ball
2. Trigger a forward run from the striker
3. Force the pass, lose the ball

The run feels right. But it kills your attack before it even starts.

Here's what works instead:

Play a direct pass to your striker between the midfield and defensive lines. No run needed. Just a simple pass into feet.

That one decision changes everything.

Now you're no longer trying to break through midfield. You're already past it - and playing directly against the defensive line.

The opponent panics. They switch to a defender instead of a midfielder. They move up aggressively. They tear a gap.

And you punish it.

This works in most situations where the pass is safe and you're not under heavy pressure. It's not about forcing it - it's about recognizing when the pass is on and taking it.

Wonder what you should do from this position? Our in-depth tutorial explains concrete ways to finish off attacks once you get the ball there 👉 bit.ly/ST-Buildup-YT-Post

THE GUIDE - FC 26 Tutorials, Tips & Tricks!

Your through balls keep getting intercepted.
Here's why - and how to fix it.

When a defender tracks your striker's run, a straight through ball often gets forced too wide or too deep. Wide means you're stuck on the wing with no real threat. Too deep means the goalkeeper just walks out and collects it.

The curved through ball can solve this.

By adding curve to your through pass, the ball can arc around the defender - but still land closer to your attacker instead of drifting toward the goalkeeper. The result? A much harder pass to intercept, and a much better position to attack from.

Here's the basic idea:
1. Trigger your attacker's run as usual with L1/LB
2. Hold L2/LT as a modifier when you press the through ball button
3. The ball curves based on your player's stronger foot - similar to a finesse shot

One thing to keep in mind: this works best at medium to long range. Too short, and you risk the game reading your input as a flair pass instead. Not what you want in a key moment. 🎯

There's more in the full lesson - including the specific spots on the pitch where this technique is most effective, and a key mistake to avoid that can make the curve work against you instead of for you.

THE GUIDE - FC 26 Tutorials, Tips & Tricks!

Your attacks are too slow - and defenders know it.

When you take an extra touch before every pass, you're giving the defence time to recover, reposition, and close you down. The opening disappears before you've even played the ball.

Here's what changes things:
Play the driven pass (R1+X/RB+A) on the first touch.

Instead of controlling the ball and setting up the pass, trust your player and send it immediately. The ball travels faster. Defenders haven't switched yet. That half-second is all you need.

Here's how to think about it:
1. See the opening while the ball is travelling to you
2. Aim toward your target before you receive and give the passing input
3. Play the driven pass the moment the ball arrives - no extra touch

Done right, you can chain two or three of these in a row. By the time the opponent reacts, the ball is already in the box.

It won't feel comfortable at first. That's normal. You'll misplace or misread a few. But once it clicks, your attacks will look completely different - faster, sharper, and much harder to defend.

THE GUIDE - FC 26 Tutorials, Tips & Tricks!

You're defending wrong in the midfield.

And it's costing you goals.

Most players do the same thing when an opponent drives forward with the ball: they chase with the closest player or track back, hoping to catch up.

The problem? We are too far away. It takes too long to eventually win the ball.

Here's what to do instead:

Look at where the opponent is moving - not where they are right now.

Then switch to a player who is already positioned in that direction.

Instead of chasing, your defender is now on a collision course with the ball carrier. The gap closes in under half a second. The opponent has nowhere to go.

Here's why it works:
1. The opponent is focused on getting away from your current player
2. They don't expect you to switch to someone in front of them
3. By the time they take their next touch, your defender is already at their feet

This one shift in thinking - from "who is closest?" to "where are they going?" - can change how you defend completely. 🧱

There's more to this concept in the full lesson, including how to time it so the opponent literally cannot react. Check it out here: bit.ly/Directional-Switch-YT-Post

THE GUIDE - FC 26 Tutorials, Tips & Tricks!

You keep conceding the same goal. Every. Single. Game.

The opponent drives down the wing, cuts inside, plays it into the box - and you're too late. Again.

Here's the honest truth: you're not slow. You're just focusing on the wrong thing.

Most players lock onto whoever has the ball and try to defend that. But by the time the pass is played, it's already too late to react.

The fix is simple in theory, but it takes a mindset shift:
Stop defending where the ball is. Start defending where it's going.

Here's how to start doing this right now:
1. Watch the ball carrier and ask yourself: what's the most likely next pass?
2. If your current player has zero chance of stopping that pass - let go. Don't stay stuck on them.
3. Switch to a defender already near where the ball will arrive, BEFORE the pass is played.

That small shift - switching early instead of reacting late - can turn a near-certain goal against you into a clean interception.

The difference between chasing the ball and actually defending it comes down to thinking one step ahead 🧠
