During #sunset at Deception Valley in CKGR, as we were enjoying some sundowner drinks, I was playing soccer with children when suddenly a cheetah cub appeared and joined our game. The cub played with the ball for a while. Our final observation was that the cub might have lost its mother and was trying to survive on its own.

Where Every Safari Tells a Different Story — Experience Botswana with Safari Embassy

Some days on safari remind me exactly why I chose this life.

Over the past few days, we spent time with some of #Botswana's most iconic wildlife. We watched #elephant families moving calmly across the open plains and gathering at the water, where the younger calves stayed safely protected between the adults. Moments like these are a reminder that patience always rewards those who spend time in the wild.

We were also fortunate to photograph a #lioness confidently #walking through the sandy tracks, a beautiful #leopard quietly moving through the #bush, and a herd of Cape #buffalo standing alert in the late afternoon light. Every sighting happened #naturally, exactly as the bush decided to reveal itself.

One of the most memorable parts of this journey was leading our guests on a guided walking #safari, crossing shallow floodwaters together and experiencing #Botswana from ground level. Walking through the wilderness allows you to notice the smaller details that are often missed from a vehicle, and it's an experience many of our guests describe as the #highlight of their adventure.

My name is Kane Motswana, and I am a San Professional Safari Guide and Naturalist. For generations, my people have been the whisper on the wind of the Kalahari, the story written in the stars. Recently, that whisper was shared with the world in a way that filled my heart with a deep, resonant pride. Watching “Pole to Pole with Will Smith,” the episode that featured my life,the San people, and our traditions, was a profound moment. Sitting with my own family, seeing our lives reflected on the screen, I saw not just recognition in their eyes, but a rekindling of a flame. We shared our home, Botswana’s magnificent desert, with all our heart. We let the land speak through us. It was brilliant… but it was only a glimpse. Our story, the depth of our connection to this earth, is an epic that deserves its own volume.

My deepest gratitude flows like the ancient underground rivers of the desert to Will Smith, who walked with us as a student, not just a visitor; to the meticulous crews of Nutopia, National Geographic, and AfroScreen; and to our own local champions, especially The Naro San of GrassLand . We together carried our voice with respect.

And we cannot speak of our culture without bowing to the silent, mighty chronicler: the Tsodilo Hills. Those sacred slopes are our library, our church, our ancestral memory carved into stone. They have been the guardian of our ways for millennia, and in their shadow, we remember who we are.
